I. Okay. So she's at best 18 or 19. My American-ism means every time she's referred to as a "minor" I immediately think Actual Teenager/Child. But Japan's legal juvenile age range is 14-20, IIRC. It keeps tripping me up and weirding me out (negative) as opposed to the usual weirding me out (positive). How old is Arata again?

Arata is like 30 I think.

I’m not sure the reader is meant to be comfortable with this, a big part of the manga so far is how Shinju gets everyone close to her emotionally twisted and confused.

Yeah, that exactly. I'm interested in seeing how this shakes things up and if Arata is gonna bring this to the court.

I think Arata thought they were about the same age (2 years ish)

It's pretty neat foreshadowing. Arata's part of the marriage form in chapter one has him born in July 1997. Whereas the divorce form from Shinju says she was born in November 1999 but you can also see that she really messily wrote the year and date because they're not actually correct.

Lotsa people here getting confused by the minor thing. In Japan you're underage until 21.
Wasn’t it 20? Or maybe the drinking age

Tho full adult rights aside I’m sure it’s prolly normal to move out and live on ur own/get a job at 18 at least

Most of my Japanese friends still live at home with their parents despite being working adults. The only ones moving out were the ones going to university in another city.
Moving out the nanosecond you turn 18 seems to be a specifically western concept.
