It was so short. It's not for right away, the third character, we'll probably have to wait until the end of the year at this speed :)
In any case, the excavation phase was funny to see.
Master, we worship corpses. We make sure they are dead, rest

Valuing cleanliness and pretending soap is something rare and fancy are the opposites.

Think it seems more from thr fact that while Japan has always had a robust bathing culture, some of the other cultures they delt with didn't. Much of medieval Europe were afraid of bathing because it would make them sick! True it was mostly do to poorly insulated living spaces, but doesnt make it any less true. Just imagine walking into a Victorian era party and be sent reeling from the stench of unwashed body odor and the strong perfumes ment to cover it up. It was even worse for their peasants, though they did lack the perfume.

Now take the above into account, tell me what seems to be the culture most isekai happen in, spoiler alert, it's medieval Europe.

Sex Maniac skill, ACTIVATE!!!

Gotta love the harem being less squeamish. Even ignoring the whole 'other world mechanics' angle, this series is about a middle class boy fitting in with lower class people. I mean, as far as the parents of these two girls would be concerned, it'd be accurate to say they 'became mistresses of a rich dude' with how they're living

Thanks for the chapter!
That last part becoming more and more apparent as future girls are added, is one of my favorite parts of the novel. The author went to great lengths to make it clear that all the girls are VERY happy with their arrangement, and to make it seem as natural as possible.

A processed commodity is more valuable because it has more labor-power, a special commodity than alone can add value to something if its socially useful(no mud pies) to do so. Labor-power is the only way to generate new value and is the key difference between human workers and robots like the ones China uses to install powerlines. Only humans or in this story, humanoids can add labor-power(such as building a robot) to a commodity.

Actually, Europe had a strong bathing culture, the issue was the decline that occurred. The Vikings are well known for taking load public baths in England; where those warrior savages loudly congregated near rivers and showed off their bodies to anyone, how scandalous! You can find laws and ordinances everywhere prior to Victorian times that show that bathing was generally enforced. Soap might have been a harder find.

The problem seems to be that war and plagues combined with puritanical thoughts of how bathhouses could end up acting as brothels tweaked the nose of those more than the smell did. That likely led to a decline in building bath houses across Europe if they got destroyed in war or disaster, so private bathing became more acceptable. Combine that with cities having otherwise poor cleanliness due to throwing literal buckets of shit onto the streets and rivers being the dumping place of all refuse, and it wouldn't matter how clean you got in the bath.

But it is a very frequently described myth that medieval Europe was a pigsty of personal cleanliness, where people didn't take baths at all. It was the enlightenment period that stunk up the place. But the common belief that every succeeding culture only improved on the previous in every way; backed up by misquoted, misattributed, and straight made-up sources for the lack of cleanliness has caused the myth to be everywhere.

So, the TL;DR; of the paragraph is thus.

Medieval Europe had baths, enlightenment era stunk. No bathing is myth, treated as common fact.

Unless there's a 5th part for Thieves (and I think there isn't), Miria should be on the next chapter - so we have just 1 month of wait left :chad:

Yeah, having to carry around a bag of severed hands so you can later use them to be able to claim a reward is a bit…

Also, they don't have cleaning magic and have to clean clothes manually. Ugh. And remember all that fuss about soap being expensive and rare enough that normal people don't typically have it. Double Ugh.

But actually, the real WTF moment here is that people age by seasons ! The world automatically enforcing the whole, "new year came, now everybody is one year older" is hilarious.
I wonder if mc would be able to adjust his magic for “wind+water” magic to help with the laundry but I imagine even a proper bath makes a lot of diff when ppl probably can’t soak unless there’s some natural hot springs versus wiping themselves down (but wouldn’t be surprised if a hot spring was monopolized by nobles too versus ppl meditating in waterfalls to become priests or so) , tho other than cheap perfumes or ppl being used to the smell, I assume there’s a cheap ver of cleansing powder versus ppl buying new clothes or just layered in filth for a month

Wonder how it’d affect puberty, at least it sounds normal/logical automatic, versus some races needing to do a ceremony for adulthood or so

Thieves aside, I wonder how many nobles “betray “ each other in the labyrinth since there’d be no evidence witnesses aside unless ppl would be suspected unless you hired a third person assassin

We're still in the same day as the previous chapter, so there might be one or two chapters about a hot night, because he killed four guys.
Another chapter about selling items and the business with the elves, plus maybe other stuff, so even in September, I'm afraid the third character won't be there, and that they'll push it into Christmas gift mode.

I'm wondering if it will be Milia or Besuta, because in the cartoon we see Milia being the third to enter the bath and being called in that order, but in the manga we see Michio looking at Roxanne, and he imagines two people behind her, to assist her, and the two characters are Selly and Besuta ( chp 28, pg 21 )

In any case, we hope he spends his money wisely.

They don't have "good" soap, instead likely using lye derived from wood ash.
