Same feeling. I think the author is only using the premise to antagonize the other girls so that the FMC comes across nicer to the audience.

Like him not trusting the girls isn't even an important part of this story, it's the girls doing things that makes them come across as untrustworthy that is.

Basically everything is manufactured to make FMC into a goddess / savior / not like other girls. Then the target audience can self insert into MC and enjoy their ~~delusion~~ fantasy.

If she really is after the brother and is just buttering him up for that then damn this series will not go down well. Gotta give the MC a win sometime.

His trauma amounts to being ignored for his brother, it's not like he's afraid of women or anything. Of course he's gonna fold when one finally shows real interest in him

Honestly I think it's going to be the other way around, she's using his brother to get closer to him, and his brother is going to fall in love with her, even though she loves the MC. At least that's the most predictable turn of the story I can think of.
Since it's a shojo there's probably going to be some drama along the way.

I think it'd be really fun (tl note: narratively interesting) to have it turn out that she actually is only talking to him to get closer to his brother. Because then they'll have to work through that somehow in a way that'd probably be less forced and definitely more meaningful than the inevitable misunderstanding that'll happen.

No actually, that wouldn't be fun at all. In fact it'd make this a pretty bad story.

He doesn't have any deep trauma... Jeez.. He is just fed up and sulking. The second a girl says I like you, he will be a blubbering wreck with his tongue hanging out and dripping drool. His defences will be as wrecked as a Tampa trailer park in tornado season the second he figures this out.
