but yeah the conning tower(?) that seems to be the cockpit is probably about twice as big as the krishna at most so those are big but not unreasonable, it's the lower ones that are shocking. in the LN illustrations I always just figured those were just different-colored panels since whenever they talk about going to see the view of hyperspace or w/e while on board the lotus, they go up to the bridge... if you can see it from the lounge why are you going up and distracting Mei whenever you have guests, dammit

tbh it kinda seems like the author didn't revise his mental image of the ship with the actual official design once he got it illustrated, though. i might be misremembering but i could swear the launch tube is described as facing backwards, they're always launching to the rear of the lotus to directly engage their pursuers instead of launching forward & turning around, lol. it's a small detail that doesn't really mean much but now that you've got me thinking about the actual design of the ship i'm like "wait, that doesn't add up" about several things, lol

considering how insane hiro's gotten recently in the WN (& will shortly in the LN, looking forward to reading vol 12) i look forward to the day when something stupid happens (since they're thinking of upgrading anyway) that'll necessitate either 1) he boards the lotus & uses his cheats to manually fire the gun in some impossible shot, or 2) he wills the krishna to manifest an even dumber gun & uses that lol
i'm personally holding out hope that the rikishi & his pistol end up being relics as well so we can get some premium nonsense out of them. "ah shit i went and bought the best power armor money could buy but it turns out the power armor i started with is made of unobtanium & can merge with the krishna to become a gundam" type shit is just what the series needs

ah, my bad, i was trying to stay vague aside from the word "relic" & the general premise of Hiro being OP (which is established pretty early on, just not fully explored until later volumes) so you've still got plenty of unexpected things ahead of you, but still, sorry lol
i guess it's too late now but i hid the only 2 bits that actually correlate to actual plot developments, the rest is just me wishing the series gets dumb enough to let that happen

I feel like the luxury hotel comparison is pretty valid. The reason is simple, volumetric space is at a serious premium on ships and space stations. Having wide open, essentially empty space for no other reason than comfort is luxurious.

Huh, the way I was reading that was, like this was more a "command crew quarters" situation. That sickbay, does not look small enough for such a tiny crew. So I assumed there are more formal areas for business meetings. And extended facilities when/if they take on more passengers.

I got that description from the lines and stated impressions of characters who are not crew members when they visit the Black Lotus the first time. For instance, the documentary crew from the 3 media companies among others.

The Black Lotus (mainly the facilities) is also often mentioned to be too large compared to the current crew size, so the sickbay looks fine to me.
