The moron also decided to send a crew to destroy one of Liam’s planet with the elixir creating device, the crew got destroyed instead and Liam got his hands on the elixir creating/planet resurrecting artifact.

The Berkeleys are a “baron” house in name only. The branch family of the house head is in control of multiple noble houses, the titles are just names to them with the house head in control of the important aspects (as stated in this chapter), and so despite the house head only having the “baron” title they are a major force in the empire.

I would say analogically this is like some large organized crime group running a small company as a front.

Yeah that's why a lot of manga adaptations never actually fully adapt the light novels. Most artist don't want to be stuck 20 years on the same story.
