The pirate family gets severely damaged from it as they insured he couldn't pay back, but he did it in a perfectly legal way, and someone suffering from money problems wouldn't simply throw stuff around like that without a care, following separate events MC decides to get more ships for his fleet so it makes the rumor about his funds crumble too, the baron loses a lot of face and "trust".

One thing I have to note, the novel was very clear about space nobles having insane tastes, absurdly shaped mansions and building in their territory, when MC took control of his house he made them change it to a luxurious but understandble style, thinking he was flaunting how to be a noble that used tax money for himself, and because the old style wasn't for him, but it didn't had that effect because for the people with the isekai common sense he was changing in a practical way and the "new" style looked traditional and formal.
So is weird how we see this baron mansion from the outside and is more normal than MC house in chapter 13.2.

Like I don't think his scummy ex-wife even had to go out her way to trick him, he strongly seems to be the type to just roll with whatever narrative he has in his mind. Even when it's glaringly obvious it's the opposite.

I think Liam’s behaviour and “evil” goals are based on modern Japanese values - opposite of don’t be rude, don’t be manipulative, don’t be greedy, don’t kill, etc.
Where is in that world his perception of evil is just a child’s play.

At the same note his experience with evil is superficial, so he is still drifting towards “good societal member” paradigm that he was indoctrinated with back in previous life.
