Yes, but not really. The new letter was misleading, but it was still better than the tungsten heavy letter Klaus was about to send. Being rivals doesn't necessatily mean anything bad. They are both powerful people, one magician, one alchemist, so if someone declares you a rival, it means they regard you as someone as powerful as they are and worthy of their full attention, professionally. In other words, that's respect. If you are proud of your skills you have invested time and effort in, having someone else skillful respect your achievements is one of the best feelings you can have.
