does not matter, MD policy is to comply with DMCA

weeeell, I have a feeling a lot of scanlator groups will choose discord as a way to host their stuff. this will be hella inconvenient (especially for me, discord is banned in the country and I would need to figure out the way to get where) aaaand discord already has various ways to flag posted content, I feel like it will stop being a good place to host really fast

Truly, I don't know why people think discord is a good place for this content. It has some great admin features, voice chat and whatnot, but honestly I think the best way to do it would be to host your own lemmy instance and configure it so only certain people can post. Not sure if that's even possible, but essentially de-centralized services are the way to go. I want to learn how to get into I2P (afaik the ultimate decentralized web) because "authorities" have no way of tracing to specific users using that protocol.

It's not just the takedown, but specifically because MD now requires you to check a box saying that you have permission from the publisher to post a chapter, so they can theoretically use that against you if they get sued for copyright.

well it might be hardly traceable, but through social engineering and some investigation you can find people willy-nilly. also if it is not compromised today it will be in future. more capable tech like quantum chips and AIs will crack a lot of 'untraceable' 'impenetrable' stuff

and anyway, to go darknet for manga is a bit extreme anyway

It was bad enough that we lost 1000+ series, but I thought that was the end of it and we would slowly recover.

But if even the groups that were only partially or completed unaffected are pulling out out of fear then this really is something else.

That fucking sucks if true, specially because MangaDex has always been good to scan groups at least from my perspective. Switching to putting the blame on them if things go south again ain't it.

I get you TL, a more niche Pixiv oneshot 1 page manga could get by unnoticed, but Uzaki is one if the top big name manga that can totally fuck over fan TLs if the publishers feel like it.

Yeah, no surprise that a bunch of groups are not responding well to MD throwing them under the bus to try and cover their own ass.
