It has been for singular very popular series with official english translations before. This time they hit about 1500 series, most of which are very niche without any english version and which will never get an English translation because they're so niche and with no fan translation, will stay niche. Mangadex has also started giving a warning to uploaders that they won't take responsibility for hosting any uploads and the blame will fall on the uploaders, so no one wants to stay here anymore.

Most likely a lot of them have been licensed by Emaqi and will get an official release soon. The exact same thing as now happened with batoto when manga plus was released.
