Didn't the DMCA thing happen before, why is it different this time?
What does it actually mean?
From some screenshot I see, you now have to tick a box saying you have the rights to upload this manga on this site.

This will save MD's from the wrath of the publisher if and when they decide to crack down, but push all the responsibility to uploader; naturally, everyone would not want to put their neck on the chopping block.

This DMCA wave really push my discord list more and more unmanageable... :shamihuh:

Most likely a lot of them have been licensed by Emaqi and will get an official release soon. The exact same thing as now happened with batoto when manga plus was released.
There's simply way too many casualties for that. And it's not a single publisher, multiple publishers banded together for this attack. This isn't about getting money, it's about Japanese getting angry that foreigners are getting to read their products for free, doesn't matter if they would ever be able to earn any money or even if they'll lose money by doing this.

Most of the big publishers have invested a lot of money in Orange/Emaqi…

That sucks, what about sites like kdtscans are they in the clear or do they have to worry to?

And I see everyone is switching over to discord can it be put up and easily read over there.

I don’t think so, I think it’s preparation for flooding the market with AI/MTL assisted official releases soon. But we’ll see I guess.

Never visit KDT web, but to my understanding, it is their own web page and upload only their titles, isn't it? If so, publisher will have to crack down on them specifically and in the case that it happens, they'll have to take responsibility on their own. However, practically speaking, publisher would rarely do that since they'll have to go after each scanlation group individually.

MD is aggregator site, so cracking down here, they get thousands of title in one go.

Discord doesn't really allow you to read manga in it. Not very conveniently. It's more like a gathering place to communicate where to go and read it.

It'd be really funny for the infamously bad at using new technologies country to actually "update" themselves for this thing in particular.

They’re more likely to go after groups like that because they’ve got paywalls and monetization.

I guess a lot of people working in the company are from the US since they release in US and Canada, but all of the names I can ser that are connected to it are Japanese so I’m not entirely certain.
