This would be so much better if the dude wasn't such a massive fucking pussy and let people shit on him all the time
Clearly you have never met a victim of abuse, which this chapter made clear is what he is. The guy isn't letting people shit on him so much as he was TAUGHT to never stand up for himself. Hell, just read his mom's response to him asking for her help

Why even force moving into a shit hole that needs to be guaranteed by your piece of shit mom?
To prove independence and self sufficiency, but hopefully Rui's confession makes him understand he doesn't need to prove all that.
This sounds like a very Japan thing.

Here, we just need a 2 months deposit. If the tenant stops paying, the landlord has 2 months to kick out the tenant.
It's common in my city (US) too - I think it's possibly more a function of the housing market than anything else.

When I left my parent's house there were times where my only available food was salted crackers with sour cream and water. I had to visit my parents if I wanted food or money from them, but I left that house at 18 y.o. for a reason.

And actually got a similar response from my father around 2 years later when I asked him to be my guarantor in a credit for a motorcycle to reduce my commuting time to college and my part time job.

So yeah that reaction is not so farfetched

Well when you have such an abusive piece of shit for a parent, it's easy to see why you'd become someone who'd let people walk all over them.
Brains are marvelous, self-wiring computers that still blow every "AI" in existence out of the water. But if you abuse/gaslight/traumatize a child, you're wiring all of the wrong "lessons" into a helpless victim's head in a way that will take a lot of work (if ever) to rewire and heal. People who would do that… let's just say that I think calling them a piece of shit is insulting… to shit, which can at least help plants grow.

So he grew up without a dad, had a distant and irritable mother, and wound up a "young carer" for his Grandma? It's a miracle he turned out as well as he did, jeez.

I found another manga a while ago about an abusive young carer situation, can't remember the name though. The young carer in this one was a girl, and her childhood friend grew up to be a famous novelist. I hope it didn't get hit by the DMCA wave.

The craziest thing about this chapter is that a haunted crack shack whose owners should be happy about getting any tenants interested at all, still insists on some paperwork bullshit with a guarantor? It feels like such a flimsy excuse to transition into this mom plotline :p Otherwise this was a great chapter.

On one hand: it would be nice to see them just stay together and accept that it's okay for him to be a house husband.

On the other: that would be a continuation of codependency and explicitly against his character arc of emotional growth and independence.

It can definitely be the end result, but skipping the convoluted journey of moving out, divorcing, building up confidence, then remarrying would miss out on the foundation to make it last.

Bro needs to move out and live with ghosts for a bit. A whole life of parental neglect needs to be deprogrammed, and it'll take more than words for him to believe in himself.

Kyousuke also wants to go through the journey. He's a romantic at heart, and while they've gone through the motions, he hasn't felt the emotional security of either feeling like he's worthy or her wanting any of it.

Even Rui, pragmatic as she is, sees this. Even if she doesn't totally get it, she knows how much it means to him, and is willing to support him through it all.
