A confession: Azuma's taking classes on 出版翻訳 (shuppan hon'yaku), which I've been referring to as "literary translation". A more accurate translation would be "publication translation", which not only includes novels but also non-fiction, magazines, etc.

(In my defence, "publication translation" never came up in my quick Google of translation specialisations so it could be a specifically Japanese thing, but I guess I should've researched it more thoroughly in Japanese 😅 Kuji Papa's gonna scold me...)

Love the softness of this chapter. Also the acknowledgement that random body parts just start hurting with aging. The characters just feel so very lived in.

i used to think the old house was the third main character in this story, but now i’m convinced it’s actually cigarettes!! (how could it have gone over my head…) and azuma pushing kuji onto nukita-san as if he wasn’t about to die of jealousy a chapter ago… haha you’re not fooling anyone, saku-chan!

thank you for another chapter and for the clarification! - are both azuma and kuji in publication translation or is kuji only in medical translation?

I get the impression Kuji’s done a little bit of publication translation but it’s not his main gig (you might remember in earlier volumes when he was translating “Song of Spring”, he referred to it as a “favour for a friend”).

Part of me wonders if we’ll get to revisit it, but given the feel of this story I suspect it just demonstrates that we have to let things go and life goes on…

i think so too… 🥲 but i do hope kuji finds a similar house to permanently move into with azuma as i know he’s currently apartment hunting in the recent chapters 🥰

I miss it too, but the brother demolished it to rebuild, didn't he? Maybe Kuji will visit the new house one day and we'll have that nostalgic feeling of going back to a neighborhood after years and seeing new buildings and establishments in place of the ones we knew.

He did intend to (technically we haven’t seen that happen yet!), but here’s me hoping in vain that he has a change of heart 😭

But I admit it’s unlikely—the story seems too realistic for that kind of miraculous turnaround, and I’m told the Japanese sentiment towards their old houses isn’t like in the west, given their issues with building codes and all 🥲
