I can't tell from the wording whether it's supposed to be x-y or y-x = 5

Given:

• Boku = 2 * Husband − 8
• Boku − Husband = 5 or Husband − Boku = 5

If Boku − Husband = 5, then Husband = 13 cm, Boku = 18 cm

If Husband − Boku = 5, then Husband = 3 cm, Boku = −2 cm

Therefore, Boku − Husband = 5

2y - 8 = x (corrected)
x - y = 5 (as you stated)

using substitution, the answers should be x = 18 and y = 13
2(13) - 8 = 18 and 18 - 13 = 5
