I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this was part of that, tbh. Naga's too stubborn to buddy up with Anastasia in general, so by adding someone both of them hate, it gives her a reason to mellow out a bit with Anastasia as they work together to prevent demon girl from messing around too much.

It would've been nice to see some more natural Naga-centered bonding though, without throwing in a new character to force it like this.

being lured by the smell of food does make sense though, like if there was someone else on the island trying to survive, it would be weird if they didn't notice fight (with noise) and not ask for a piece when there is so much meat.

'the story' is about survival on an island, so you shouldn't expect much 'development', just survival tips and comedy of fantasy girls not being used to it
