In this case it looks more like they put in every legitimate secret ingredient they'd heard of (and a couple of their neighbors) on the logic of "all tasty things taste good together."

It's not quite mixing up sugar and salt, but it's definitely one of the classics.

I'd imagine part of it is her finding his overreactions to various things amusing. Personally I'd like to see at least some interaction with the brother that isn't him being swarmed by women. So far the brother has been a plot device and nothing else.
