So...were people TALKING about magic, different spells, their method for activation, the variety of elements, the basics of magic manipulation and all of that nice little knowledge for him to hear from his cell? It would've been A LOT BETTER if his mom had just transfer her own power upon death. This random "evolution" of his hearing magic now allows him to use very advanced magic techniques with over powered results (he claims that one basic spell he used was his weakest).
His mom taught him to read, but she didn't teach him simple table manners? Was she unable to secure more than simple loafs of bread for him to eat? Would a kid that survived on bread alone be able to withstand torture and also grow up with a body healthy enough to not only be physically capable of running away, but also have the magic capacity to cast strong magic with no repercussions? He KNOWS how a magic sealing shackle system that is booby trapped works, but he doesn't know how forks and spoons work?

He suddenly became able to use magic when his mother died. I'm suspicious that she actually did something that resulted in her death but gave him magic. No idea what, but it seems like something a manga writer might pull.

Right, I'm sure that magic he used just minutes ago to wipe out a whole squad of elite knights wasn't even worth mentioning. Excessive humility comes off as arrogance instead. Dude is extremely unlikable.

Still iffy on the whole Hearing gift being considered trash. Even if it didn't evolve, he could be a spy or even an information broker. And given that he could the fluctuations in his mother's heart, he could use that as a lie detector too lol

Ehhh, not really. It's something that happens in real life too, where people tend to end up with someone who resembles at least one of their parents, be it in terms of skill, personality, and/or appearance.
I think it was discussed by Freud.
Either way, in this MC's case, it's perfectly understandable why he'd like the princess. Up to this point, the only person to have shown him care was his mother. Then the second person to do that also happens to look like his mother? That's gonna reinforce whatever budding preferences he already has.

I can't tell if it's the writing, the translation or both that makes this quite a bit wonky/odd feeling to read, but I'll give it another few chapters.. just hope there aren't too many more instances of double speech bubbles while stating a proofreader is being used..

I would say people get too invested in shitting on something you knew was a pile of shit from the title. It’d be slightly more tolerable if they enjoyed it, but everyone sounds so miserable.
But, it doesn’t seem that inconsistent that he can’t do or know certain things. You can hear about something all you’d like, but without actually seeing or using something like utensils, I can see him not knowing what they look like or how to effectively use them.
Magic kind of makes sense, especially if you can hear the chants. And it’s something normally taught, so having details about how it works isn‘t that strange.

His father knows healing magic and healed him after each "session" , and MC probably managed to copy that in the meantime anyway.
The problem is how the heck does hearing equals copy? It would've made some sense if magic could be learned in a way that he heard the know how through hearing, but no, magic is innate, so how the fck does that work? Dumb trope.
