Seems more like a "digivolution" of one. Gashadokuros are giants, and made from the bones of people which weren't properly buried, like victims of hunger and dead soldiers. But it also is a collective of anger, like Pops here. I once made up D&D5E stats for them with a CR of 19.

Pops is certainly worse than that. It's like if he became smaller and condensed his pool of fermented anger into a blade, instead of raw strength. At least that's my deduction of him calling it his "old friends". Gashadokuros also are said to be born from "hundreds", Pops here seems like the result of thousands of human deaths, maybe more.

I like when people are creative like this. Folklore has no canon, and people should spice it up, like they did before widespread literacy.

When I read the part about "viewing humans as immortal warriors", I realized "oh damn, we're basically the Chosen Undead/Bearer of the Curse/Ashen One/Tarnished".

We die over and over, but we always come back. Maybe we'll be fighting with a bow instead of a sword, maybe we'll be using traps instead of direct assaults, but we'll never stop.
