I will have to disagree on the jewelculus thing. The phonetic reading is literally kurusu, not cross, not crux, but curus (or culus). You can argue that it's an idiosincracy of the japanese language, but that's a license you are taking on your own accord. (And cross would not be prhonetized like that in japanese anyway, so that meaning is just not there, it woudl be kurosu).
And I do agree that the LN does fuck some names up, but I'll always be in favor of maintaining consistency in the naming patters. It took me some time to remember who the fuck Hein (Hine) was (and I think Hein is slightly more correct), and that can be avoided by just keeping consistent with propper names when there is no loss of meaning (I'm all in favor of ranaming hte spells for example, as most of them are pretty much a disaster in the LN, and there is actual loss of meaning).
