Cicadas are starting to appear here in the Philippines. They can't get through my screened windows, but as soon as I try to close my windows to use the aircon (since I have to open the screens), rarely, one of them always seem to be waiting for that moment to waltz right in and be a menace. Haven't seen them for a while now after rainy season started recently, so that's great.

Is it true they take years before they emerge from the ground? If so, no wonder they seem to be rare.

In Spain is very different, cicadas are mostly on parks and the countryside but they are not that big as in Asia or some places in America, and they definetly don't get in people's way in the middle of the street. But we have moths that are absolute schizo assholes at night, they enter somewhere with light and start playing pong everywhere until their zoomies stop and dissapear.
