Ngl, I usually would disagree but I not only get where you're coming from but it would not even be bad writing. MC had growth, an actual realization that he likes her and tries/tried to act on it but she clearly isn't interested like that (his pov). Him cutting his losses would honestly make sense while being refreshing.

Sure, there is more to this series and I do see the value and enjoyment in her character and what we got BUT hinting towards the fmc having feelings for the mc to then have her go MIA and only actively engage other characters while pretty much blocking mc out of their social life and skipping every single chance to grow their relationship AND it going unpunished(lack of better wording) every. single. time. is just so fucking lame.

Worst trend/trope in recent years. (not even 1% as bad as Kakkoi Onnanoko to 12 cm no Yakusoku but still lame af)

Yeah - I also think it'd open up some interesting plot developments for the various characters.

Hebi-chan could further progress and get away from her bad family setup, or learn how to better handle/navigate it if Keisuke becomes a good friend & confidant for her (basically support system who isn't a shallow hangers-on). Do they do romance? Sure, why not!
Keisuke lets go of someone he kinda sorta doesn't have a chance with, whether she acknowledges it or not, and makes other friends/gets over his trauma of Hebikawa, potentially scores hot landmine girlfriend
Kusunoki is free to live her Debut Life and make friends and be happy. Does she notice Keisuke's suddenly not there? Honestly don't care, she said she doesn't like him, she can live without one friend when she'll make so many more.
Mei..........well, I dunno yet, keep being the tomboy I guess, that's perfect as-is.

Some people are giving Kusunoki shit for going around the festival with Irie instead of Shizuki, which is stupid cause the entire time she has been wanting to make friends and kick off her HS debut (as mentioned in ch1) I'm pointing out that it's entirely on Shizuki for not asking her to do the same when he had the opportunity (during the play when they both were backstage) him being his usual coward self he hesitated and instead said "nah nevermind, forget I said anything" which is why I said that he reaps what he sows


That nature of his has always rubbed me the wrong way, especially when he finally came to terms with his feelings for her, to then start avoiding her without saying a word on why he is doing so, which of course hurt her


Edit to add last point: the whole premise of this manga is him helping Kusunoki make more friends and with her HS debut, so now he's upset that she's actually progressing on that goal of hers, I honestly can't stand characters like him

*(to add on a serious note - I'm with you; Kusunoki has made no outward indication she likes Shizuki the way he likes her and her focus has always been her Debut.
I also think it'd be fun drama if Shizuki cut bait, got together with either Otobe or Hebikawa, and the potential if Kusunoki looks up and realizes he's not by her side anymore, and see what that would do to her character arc.)
