You know what? After actually pondering the situations here, I can confidently say my minds about why are they not confessing one way or another.

They didn’t want if either of them confess, the moment of being in a fwb and actually embracing or being embraced by the partner either will be awkward or not even getting the chance to be in the same situation ever again because of the unknown in their each minds whether the other will accept the confession.

It is still stupid to not confess though

That was a joke (also I don't remember any insertion actually happening), but you'd be surprised; women come in all types, mindsets, personalities, etc. particularly when it comes to things like fwb or hooking up. In this particular situation though, if the female lead was aware of this I assume they would be simultaneously jealous but also not honest enough to disclose why they are jealous. I'm kind of glad this story is cuter than it might seem based on the premise + Japanese societal norms (at least as depicted in manga) but simultaneously maybe some part of me wants it to be a bit more nuanced. At the same time, I also don't want it to go full smutty romantic drama, I feel like it's hard to find that balance.

It's a modern problem to some degree, although this is exaggerated. The "situationship". Everyone is afraid of getting hurt, or perhaps assume that one person or another is fully responsible for moving the relationship forward, getting hurt in the process.

And not to mention, both of then even put some words that contradict themself either in privates and mainly in group setting

Funny anecdote: This was in college, but I had two instances of catching two people cuddling or sharing a kiss when it seemed clear to me that they had something going on. And my socially inept self would ask "Hey, are you two dating?" (I knew them personally), and they would say "no". Of those two instances, at least one of them did lead to them dating officially so...I suppose everyone has different standards for whether or not intimacy equates to a relationship, and beyond that perhaps there is a hesitance to apply a label to something that they don't hate but don't want to remain the same either. Or sometimes, maybe the freedom to explore other options simultaneously is tempting as well. This is my experience, but signals are kind of bullshit to some degree; everyone interprets "signals" differently to the point that they're next to useless. They require clarification, which hopefully the date in this chapter will move the leads towards.
