If it was only 2 years ago, wouldn't everyone already vividly recall the details?
It's probably a combination of propaganda, half-truths, and intimidation. Sure people remember, but keep in mind she already had an abrasive personality. Tack onto that her not having any friends, likely due to self-isolation for crown princess training, along with being exiled by the royal family, and you get someone known mostly through gossip and rumor.

Also, that's her mom talking to the scribe. Curious if she's slated for a redemption arc after realizing how she treated her daughter.

re-reading a bit, it does seem like Karina was doing a lot of the things she got accused of but both not as wasteful as she's made out to be and also defintiely still in such a way that makes it really easy to see her like that. in chapter one she herself thinks back on it and it does look like while she herself found the expenses and way she acted justified it's very easy to see how someone else would not think so.

On top of that in re-reading to get a better view of her parents it's starting to look like her parents and possibly even her younger sister weren't actually malicious towards her. At least not actively so. Her parents seemed very normal and even caring towards her as they told Karina that she'd become the crown prince's fiancée in her sister's stead like they were sorry to have to do this to her.

Though of course Aurora is still more of a black box so we'll have to see where things go, but overall while Karina was definitely just thrown away by the crown prince once her sister got healthy again I'd wager her own family really did not want for this to happen.

All this to say, I'm excited to see Karina's revenge because while it's mostly justified (especially towards the royal family who are erasing all records related to her to ensure no one will ever know how badly they fucked up) there's a good chance she'll be throwing strays around to people she only believes deserve it too.

The real question here is what has Karina been doing for two years? And the scribe is a real one. Indeed, why crowned her princess if you knew her reputation would damage the royal family? It seems no one truly knew her and generally, that means the protagonist was right to think someone was actively working to make her life hell.

I gotta say... some unexpected developments.

So not only do we have a 1 year (at minimum) timeskip, but also a temp change in PoV. I certainly didn't expect that.

Also, that's her mom talking to the scribe. Curious if she's slated for a redemption arc after realizing how she treated her daughter.

I suppose it depends on whether the scribe manages to uncover the truth and reveal it to her. From the looks of it, Karina's mother is sadly ignorant of Karina's disposition. However, I'll at least credit her with actually loving her daughter enough that her own perception of Karina hasn't exactly been warped by all of the gossip and rumors. Also, there's likely some guilt involved, since as far as she's aware, Karina did everything that she was supposed to in order to be a proper queen of the empire, at the behest of her parents, only to end up having her engagement renounced and then exiled. Then not long after being exiled, she died in an avalanche.

And now, rather than at least properly mourn for her or offer their respect to her memory, the Kingdom (especially the royal family) is doing everything in their power to tarnish her memory and discredit her legacy, all the while remove any tangible evidence of Karina, so as to not make the Royal Family look bad or questionable.

That said, the lengths that the Kingdom is going to makes me wonder if they went after Karina's family home in order to destroy any evidence of Karina's existence as well as forced her family to swear to never speak of her. If so, it would explain why her mother is acting as if she was a former servant to the family, despite still wearing her earrings.

Thanks for this, and looking forward to the next one.

This is an interesting take on the story afterwards. In many "the villainess gets banished" stories, the country essentially falls apart because (somehow) that one person was the glue holding everything together. Here, it seems our MC really didn't have a place here, and society/this country as a whole is more than welcome to be rid of even any mention of her. And now we have someone with no connection to the MC trying to find out the truth, solely for the sake of preserving accurate records.

We've seen the mom, now I wonder about the dad (especially cause we don't see a wedding ring on the mom at the moment)

This manga is really good at spacing out clues, thoughts, perspectives, and characters. Nothing feels wasted.

This doesn't really answer the hotly debated question from last chapter about whether or not the maids died in the avalanche either.

But I suspect we'll find that out next chapter when Eve does more of her inquiry?

But yeah, this time skip is a bit interesting and also worrying. I worry because I was hoping the author would keep the pace and draw things out more, but it seems like they're planning a short run for this series (10 chapters?). Just the vibe I'm getting so far.
