This was probably one of the worse attempts at whitewashing for a character in manga i've seen recently. She was silent during childhood because she was afraid. Sure. What happened during the following 5314141 instances where the name of her oh so beloved sister were being dragged through mud ultimately leading to her exile in disgrace while she replaced her? (during which she maintained a stonecold face as well) Literally EVERYONE in the kingdom thinks FMC was and still is the satan incarnate.

She quite literally watched her sister's condemnation and the plot of assassination (of which she thought was successful and sister was dead) from the front row. Karina is currently alive due to poor dumb luck and you wanna "save" her now? The fucking audacity.

What a bunch of bullshit. Only way to salvage this is to make her actually evil and currently lying through her teeth for her own agenda. For a selective mute, she had a lot to say to a complete stranger.

I'm honestly confused as to why you and others here think this is meant to excuse Aurora when it comes to what's happened to Karina.

None of this is the story or the author trying to "white wash" or justify what Aurora did or didn't do. It's Aurora explaining herself to another character based on her perspective and memories and emotions and thoughts within the story's setting and timeline. That is wholly distinct from us the readers being told "actually you should forgive this character for their actions", and seeing so many people across these last few chapters act like that's what's being asked of them is almost maddening.

We have just enough information to know that Aurora is effectively obsessive about Karina in how much she loved her, but that Aurora's behavior, coupled with her being a very young & sickly child and with how their parents treated them both, on top of Karina being a very passive and giving person who put herself last in most situations, all contributed to Karina being pushed down and "sacrificed" for the sake of their family and for Aurora herself.

None of that is being presented as a good thing by Aurora, nor is it the story making a judgment call on Aurora's "goodness or badness" within the story at this time. She's one character in a cast of characters who have their own perspectives and biases, and while we as readers can decide if they're good or bad or mixed or nuanced, the story itself is simply relating each character's POV to convey the narrative as it continues to tie each plot line and character arc together.

If you or any other person here thinks Karina's impotent, or that Aurora's unforgivable, then that's fine; but that's your personal biases coming into play, and not some fault of "poor writing" or inability on the author's part to tell the story.
