This was probably one of the worse attempts at whitewashing for a character in manga i've seen recently. She was silent during childhood because she was afraid. Sure. What happened during the following 5314141 instances where the name of her oh so beloved sister were being dragged through mud ultimately leading to her exile in disgrace while she replaced her? (during which she maintained a stonecold face as well) Literally EVERYONE in the kingdom thinks FMC was and still is the satan incarnate.

She quite literally watched her sister's condemnation and the plot of assassination (of which she thought was successful and sister was dead) from the front row. Karina is currently alive due to poor dumb luck and you wanna "save" her now? The fucking audacity.

What a bunch of bullshit. Only way to salvage this is to make her actually evil and currently lying through her teeth for her own agenda. For a selective mute, she had a lot to say to a complete stranger.

I'm honestly confused as to why you and others here think this is meant to excuse Aurora when it comes to what's happened to Karina.

None of this is the story or the author trying to "white wash" or justify what Aurora did or didn't do. It's Aurora explaining herself to another character based on her perspective and memories and emotions and thoughts within the story's setting and timeline. That is wholly distinct from us the readers being told "actually you should forgive this character for their actions", and seeing so many people across these last few chapters act like that's what's being asked of them is almost maddening.

We have just enough information to know that Aurora is effectively obsessive about Karina in how much she loved her, but that Aurora's behavior, coupled with her being a very young & sickly child and with how their parents treated them both, on top of Karina being a very passive and giving person who put herself last in most situations, all contributed to Karina being pushed down and "sacrificed" for the sake of their family and for Aurora herself.

None of that is being presented as a good thing by Aurora, nor is it the story making a judgment call on Aurora's "goodness or badness" within the story at this time. She's one character in a cast of characters who have their own perspectives and biases, and while we as readers can decide if they're good or bad or mixed or nuanced, the story itself is simply relating each character's POV to convey the narrative as it continues to tie each plot line and character arc together.

If you or any other person here thinks Karina's impotent, or that Aurora's unforgivable, then that's fine; but that's your personal biases coming into play, and not some fault of "poor writing" or inability on the author's part to tell the story.

yeah, God forbid that an author attempt to explore the point of view of an "antagonist". How they dare to try to to not make them something more then at least ambiguously evil.
Either these people cannot understand that someone can hurt others even without any intention for it, or even while having good intentions, or, as this is way more common that what is normally believed, people have a visceral reaction to it. Or that we got so much accustomed with black and white morality, that we lost the functional capabilities of analyzing a narrative.

That's rude why'd you break it?

I wish silence were the answer to all problems
Seriously why must be so reliant on communication if their to come to their own conclusions anyways?

Mmmm like the yin and yang
There's some good in evil and in some evil in good
Quite the selfish dependent lil sister

Mmm
And so we've both sides of the story
Resentment fueled by constantly having to concede to and take responsibility for her sister
And a sister unable to speak up and body incapable of preventing her sister from taking it all on
Assuming my memories faulty in this case anyways, definitely interesting sibling dynamic
In a way they were both trying to do what's best, and yet still remained farther then ever apart come the current storyline

She was so moved by her words she's willing to risk everything to help reunite sister and sister
Fantastic

Have a nice day :/

that was never the point. aurora was part of the scheme to remove and replace her sister after erasing karina's existence entirely.
she has been a threat to the well being of karina and her behavior certainly wronged karina even further when she took her older sister's position and dignity.
the castle karina was exiled to was always meant to be her grave, and willing or not, aurora encouraged the poor treatment of a person she supposedly loved.
call it good or evil, the damage inflicted on karina has its sources.
what was it again, "the path to damnation is paved with good intentions?"
safe to say that aurora knows everything or most of the developments happening around her sister, yet she didn't push back against the ongoing ruination.
if you have the background where an accomplice like aurora isn't called evil, that's for you.
i would have to call that a corrupt circle with a lot of self-justification involved.
reminds me too much of dysfunctional criminal families, or even worse, the mafia and public condemnation of any kind of defiance.

Where does it say that Aurora was privy to what was happening to Karina?

Karina was isolated from the Crocus family during her training at the palace; her family had no contact with her.

You say "safe to say" Aurora knows but can you cite where that's stated in the story thus far? Because you can dislike how a character is written, but making things up is a poor way to convince others of the merit of your subjective opinion.

And if Aurora doesn't know what's happening with Karina until she's exiled, then what exactly is she supposed to do, especially before she's made Orlando' fiancé and is merely the sickly youngest daughter of a weak & politically neutral noble house?

Man siscon theory getting more real everyday 😭

Anyway, there's is a lot people mad here💀 I'll admit that the premise of the story has changed but at the same time it has been changed for a long while now, if y'all don't like where the story is going you can always drop it instead of throwing a tantrum every time the characters don't act the way you're expecting them too. Like damn, people are acting like Aurora is truly the devil incarcerated when her biggest sin is lit doing nothing(and now being remorseful abt it)💀 orlando lit sent assassins to kill Aurora and still pretty much wants to kill her but y'all seem less mad abt that.
Like, she ain't a Saint or blameless(bc her inaction had consequences, but she's aware of that) but I'd be more at angry at their parents than her in this situation. And if u want to say that doesn't excuse it then u should also blame Karina since she was part of enabling Aurora's inaction through their lives.

Stop trying to analyze the story through the first couple of chapters alone, heck I've seen people still thinking Aurora stole orlando from Karina or that is some elaborated plan to take the crown💀 I don't think this story and the characters are that hard to understand.

Now knowing that all Aurora wanted was to be w her sister forever I wonder what was her plan after (surprisingly)being betrothed again or what was her plan going to the castle(if she wasn't invited, and if she was prob Orlando's doing to do his little show condemning karina) 🤔

Heck I'll eat my words if everything end up being a lie and a very elaborated plan but so far everything tracks

Thanks for the chapter!!

i did not say she was privy, i say she was part of it.
her existence and the superior treatment aurora received meant as a consequence, karina had to suffer for it in return.
and aurora's attempts to meddle in her sister's life even more will likely result in karina and reshutoka having to deal with any negative fallout that comes from it.
she will not take the fall for her actions and is destined to come out on top, no matter what happens.
aurora's inability to stop herself and her backers from harming her older sister is the point of criticism here.
she doesn't even recognize and acknowledge that.

@UdenEmpati Kawano-sensei recently had a interview and it appears as though she's saying a bit of what you've been explaining. https://thetv.jp/news/detail/1396052/

Rough mtl
"All the characters in this work have some thoughts hidden inside, but they can't put it out well. Karina actually has various thoughts, but she can not put it on the table, so she tends to lie to herself. I would like you to pay attention to who has what thoughts and thoughts, and how to sublimate them in the story. Also, since the girls are the central story ... I am particular about each cute gesture and facial expressions. I hope you can pay attention to this as well."

Also seems like she wants to slow the pace a little so that might happen. Hopefully this calms the people down thinking it's a 3 volume axe or something.

I said it before I'll say it again, either the little sister is really good at manipulating everyone(that stare she gave the prince is either a glimpse of her real personality or she really does love her sister that much), im half expecting it to be the twist that shes actually just evil.

But honestly that would be one of the few cliches I cant stand I think it would be far more interesting if its just that Karina broke under the pressure, also the prince seems pretty weak when dealing with aurora meanwhile from the flash back he was pretty aggro with karina. I wonder why he and the royal family as a whole hate her so much.

Based on the comments in that interview, it does seem like the author already knows that the series got the greenlight to continue past volume 3. Especially since expanding on the worldbuilding was also brought up. Volume 2 ended with chapter 11 (Mangadex incorrectly has chapter 12 listed as part of that volume currently), so I doubt the author would talk like this if there were only around 3 more chapters left.
