I honestly find it weird why there are MMO stories and the writers didn't even bother playing a MMO for research.
Like, why?
Seriously, the closest thing you could do is have is something like this here
, where the player simply had skill to make Hugo, a character that most didn't consider viable, work in a way that forced the other players to predict, rather than autopilot.
However, the difference from that to here is, is that it a) was in the context of high level play of a specific older game b) still required a ton of skill and the right mindset to work and c) it was still very tough and he lost in the end.
Here, however, it seems more that the MC doesn't even need to overcome the limits of her class, but gets everything handed to her instead.
And also, that the designers put cryptic OP stuff in an MMO that noone else has stumbled upon despite it being popular.
