He's acting like because he has the ability to tame monsters, he lacks basic human functionality.

Flip flop friends are not friends.

Why do they portray him thinking he did nothing wrong as him being insane? There really was nothing wrong with what he did.

Also casts some light on what would happen to Jelly, should people find out...

yes
"The kindest most benevolent creature I have ever laid eyes on... is a monster! Kill it!"

It has seemed like Jelly's extreme fear of being discovered is just a silly misunderstanding on her part now that she's proven herself, but perhaps that's not the case.

Not cool, Berger's former party. He saves your lives and you throw him under the bus? He might have a worrisome ability in this kingdom, but his intention was to use it for good. Classic case of discrimination without trying to properly understand how it could be beneficial and save lives, just pure "waaagh evil", kinda reminds me of Yumiella from Villainess Level 99.

Thanks for the chapter.

Dude spent his life being a pariah, lucked into finding some friends that didn't know his situation, immediately got executed for saving their lives because that action revealed his ability, only to get saved by people labeled as enemies who also happen to assure him he hasn't done anything wrong, which to be fair at that point he probably hasn't.
That's not portraying him as insane, that's showing him being broken.

I guess they view these monsters not just as weird wildlife but as demonic beasts. Being able to control demons would make anyone look evil or shady.

Like if your buddy just suddenly turned out to be a necromancer who made corpses rise to save you. It would creep out the more devout folk.

Yup, doesn't help that he started petting the other wolves instead of killing them all first. Made it extra creepy and more unclear intentions compared to just killing the boss and the wolves and having a talk afterwards.
