Why did they just charge in anyway? He should’ve been able to send scouts in sneakily to ascertain the situation. In this case, it probably wouldn’t have made a difference but charging in and screaming at the gates was still the wrong choice, I feel.

I do appearciate that the Dark Elves do have some good points, and it makes sense they ran to the Demons who took them in, and are undyingly loyal, Jilbagias got a loyal asf crew now. His mixed feelings is understandable they helped ruin his human childhood.

Grania is jealous of Liliana that's for sure.

stopping to save humans would be hard to justify to their allies but stopping to negotiate with a powerful dragon would be alot easier. wonder if this white dragon might be recruited instead of killed

I
Wn spoiler The demon king castle is built on top of the dragon nest in a hostile takeover. The black dragon sided with the demon, betraying the white dragon. But they were still treated as lower caste cause demon is bunch of racist supremacists.
Want alive dragons. I want to be sure this dragon will not die.

So according to chapter 1, the one helping humans including the hero (MC's previous life) attacking demon king castle is a white dragon. Is this perhaps the same dragon from back then?
Even if it's not the same dragon, if he learn the true nature of Jilbagias will he become MC's ally and help him destroying the demons?

They did do recon first. All the evidence the scouts found led them to believe it was a group of humans that was hiding amongst the goblins, which sufficiently explained how the group of beastmen may have been kill/ captured, without being enough of a cause for concern for them to be more vigilant. Granted it they could have still made an effort to verify their theory, but their train of thought and course of action does make sense. you wouldn't expect to see a honey badger in an ant hill.

They indeed take their time scouting first in the WN, but the only difference it makes is that they come to the conclusion that the goblins are most likely being controlled by a human mage, perhaps a necromancer, before launching their attack.

Alex's retinue have sharp senses and many are experienced so they can all feel something is off about the situation, but stalling or calling for reinforcements just to deal with goblins could besmirch the Demon Prince's reputation, and if there are humans inside then Alex wanted to deal with it personally.

And the WN more or less goes over the above explanation twice since there's a detailed post-battle breakdown of the situation and how it ends up affecting Jilbagia's standing, so summarizing it is a good move in the interest of pacing.

Wait I am confused, when rushing in (as stupid as it is) why did they think it was a mix of goblins and humans? Didn't the evidence point at it being just humans?

The initial report said it was over breeding goblins, then the recon from the Night-elves found human shaped foot prints with an odd magic power. This is from pages 3, 12, and 16
