The joke is that the spell wasn’t dispelled before Satoko was pulled into the afterlife dimension, so from her POV everyone was unrecognizable as they were begging her not to kill them. So their efforts were pointless.

Bonus funny was when one of them asks Satoko if she recognized her during training and she says no; she says no not necessarily because she didn’t remember who she was but because she was still under the spell and couldn’t recognize anyone regardless.
