I’m really trying to figure out the deal with this MC. My best guess is this:
He develop an aversion to bullying to the point where he couldn’t stand it. So he tried to help his once bully. That lead him to be bullied again even though he still hates her.
Attempted suicide as one last hurrah, that didn’t work and now she’s the one who wants to help him.
