My guess is that while they were in love at first, the two of them just weren't compatible and argued a lot to the point where it probably got to be too much to handle. It is a shame really.

It seemed like Hebihara is a little cold and awkward (can see it with how he treats Hayato) And Kamitani mama is more hot tempered. So based on reading up til now, this was my assumption too

Their relationship is one of the bigger mysteries...

Hayato is probably 15 or 16 years old.
Taka is a toddler, somewhere between 1 and 3 years old and Hayato mentioned that Taka had just been born when Hebihara left.
That would mean they had been together for more than 10 years.
And then they decided to get a divorce just after having another child?
