I'm fine with isekai tropes but man this is a bad start, i wonder what would make this different.

Amazing, he picked an actually useful weapon, I could wish he'd chosen a Naginata (basically a staff with a blade on the end) but it's better than a katana at least

“Big bro” instead of “onii-san” (or what was there) is not just a translation, it's a localization.

Or it could be "aniki", in which case "big bro" is fine?
Some translators decide to leave the word “aniki” transliterated (without any translation) for this exact reason (because the difference of “aniki” and “onii-san” is lost in translation unless the translator decides to establish “mister” as the translation for “onii-san” and thus opens yet another can of worms, raising the level of perceived sluttiness of any girls using “mister” to address their romantic interests and also having to deal with expectations built by the other translators using “mister” for any “-san”).

In 2009, for example, the translator group Chihiro-Fansubs transliterated the word “Aniki…” (instead of “Big bro…” or any other localization) as the final word of the main character in the 16th episode of “Asura Cryin'”.

This choice is not without its own flaws (for example, someone with 0% knowledge of Japanese addressive expressions would easily be confused into thinking that “Aniki” is a name) and thus perhaps needs a TL note.
