Did haitomodachibaka ever stop using the useless translation add-ons that don't belong in manga like "stop the cap"

Why do japanese (scratch that, japanese men) love the chase but never the rest?

All the popular romance mangas take ages to get the lovers together, riding an eternal "tee hee we like each other but aren't going out so we do the most basic relationship stuff will we ever get together tee hee" only to finish the moment they become a couple.

It's like they slap on a bit of sauce and cheese to the crust of a pizza, end up only eating said crust and tell themselves that was the tastiest, most filling pizza they have ever eaten.

People, that nowdays we ought to call "neurodivergent" will justify saying that is bad for the sales otherwise and that only the chase is good, these "specimen" only talk like this because they are surface level Manga appreciator who missed out on the many (but never enough) stories where couple enjoy a couple life.

Its because the getting-to-know-you stage is the most volatile in a long term romantic relationship, and for the author that instability/uncertainty is easier to make compelling drama out of.

plus, what sounds more interesting; day 10 of getting led on by some girl you're getting to know, or day 1000 of the wife nagging you about leaving the toilet seat up? Most people try to do longer term relationships in real life, which makes these more exploratory comics entertaining.

There's a big difference between comics that lean into romance as the main attraction, and romcoms or gag manga/slice of life that happens to include romance. For example, we do see some successful romcom manga that can bridge the gap between school and adult, (i.e.Takagi) when the main attraction is the comedy, and why there are less romance manga that grow into the main body of the relationship while maintaining their popularity. The romance-first comics that manage to do it still emphasize the first exploratory part of the longer term relationship (i.e. ase to sekken) even after the relationship is established and even slice of life manga can fail to keep going in a meaningful way after the romantic plot point is resolved. (i.e. komi or debatably love is war)

Personally, I kinda fucking hate this manga, because it's taken to an extreme. So much happens that nothing happens, and it's exhausting. Everything has simultaneously no stakes, and make-or-break importance to the story, which makes it unsatisfying to read. It's the romcom equivalent of ragebait. (Also see Hiroyuki's Dream Jumbo Girl and Kanojo mo Kanojo)

Good comics rely on tension/conflict to add stakes to the story. After the will they/wont they first stage of going out with someone, the natural next step is either to pivot the story away from the romance, or make the next point of conflict/tension "are they gonna break up." This is why you'll see more manga that start in the middle stages of a relationship, rather than ones that carry through from the beginning stages, esp since it's easier to manage starting from scratch than having to backread 100+ chapters of content to write new content that actually builds on the previous work.

A romance manga with no romance after the confession makes no sense. A manga that's got 100+ chapters out, the couple was pretty clearly in love, but now they're at each others throats for plot convenience is unsatisfying for readers, most of whom are reading a romance manga for an entertaining fantasy about true love rather than a realistic exploration of the psychology of romance, esp in the post getting-to-know-you phase.

I share your frustration about the lack of good comics that show all these parts of a long term relationship in proper detail, but we can't just hand-wave this away as a result of popularity leading to readers being stupid. or having poor taste, or even authors just being lazy and money hungry, it's more complicated than that (altho this can be a factor, particularly for ongoing comics that are already successful, see dressup darling or a million others.)

100+ chapters without any sign of progress. I can't read this anymore. It's gotten boring and repetitive a long time ago.

I'm caught up with the raws (184) and it doesn't get better.
Supporting Akane is painful, every W she can get is interrupted by other girls also she's the only one who still didn't get a kiss after all these chapters while others already got multiple instances. In the latest chapters MC is still indecisive as fuck but he did reject his older cousin (Kozue) and Shion just told him she's fine with a harem (in 183) and in chapter 184 it's implied MC decided on something and the chapter end with a new childhood friend being introduced 🤡

Ok can someone answer a question about current events going on with MC suddenly thinking Akari is the one he likes? It feels like the most forced tsundere must win shift ive seen in a long time. It looks like its based purely on misunderstanding his cousins advice which is sad.
