Wow, GATE ended? I haven't been reading it in a long time, but now it seems like a good time to read the whole thing.

huh, why is this chapter marked as the end chapter

Because the author said it was the end. Next is the Navy spinoff.

Oh wow this ending seems rushed, I sure hope the sequel novel to this won't consume another decade of my life!
This is strange... I agree this ending chapter feels rushed, and yet I'm also thankful because I feel like this story was constantly twisting the knife to really drag out the ending.

If Zorzal was just going to die like that after his forces get beaten by the remnants of the JSDF, then I would have preferred he get sniped/stabbed/whatever forever ago and let the story end there. Leave out the nonsense intrigue around making deals with the Chinese, hostage crisis, the weird monstrous shapeshifters, gate instability, monsters from an alternate dimension, or the forced retreat that suddenly made Zorzal take the spotlight again just so he can torture the reader with killing our allies and show off how mean he can be to his own troops. All the while the reader knows that the only reason Zorzal is still alive (and our friendly characters are not) is because the author messed up and accidentally gave all the plot armor to Zorzal.

Phrased another way: Despite having guns, tanks, helicopters, airplanes, bombs, missiles, dragons, magic, and actual immortal death gods on the protagonists' side vs normal humans in Roman-era armor on the antagonists' side, it still took the JSDF 143 chapters to defeat that army and for Zorzal to die. And the JSDF doesn't even get credit for the kill, as Zorzal died from getting stabbed by a rabbit. A rabbit that could have stabbed him lots of times before and saved everyone a bunch of suffering, but for some reason only chose to do so now. And despite coughing up blood with a brutal stab wound and his eyes drooping as if he's about to pass out, Zorzal still doesn't die quickly and was strong enough to choke the badass killer rabbit to death so that we'd lose another character. Wtf.

Oh man... shame, but you know what... maybe it was time for this to end. Hope the second series gets an adaptation, but I would like it only with this artist, this story is too cliche without Sao-sensei art and storyboarding.

Man... when Aura got decapitated, I got so sad... then she got better XD.

About Tyuule... I think she went kinda insane, not batshit insane, but to cope with her own demons, she started to hate the world, but at least I think she knew she deserved at least some punishment.

But I still wanted her to find some redemption, despite her having some blame, she wasn't the main agent of the suffering here... there were a lot of people that should simply have killed Zorzal, the guy was a waste of air.

I'll be dead honest; this whole war arc dragged on way too long. Lots of chapters were pretty much pointless, China and the United States as antagonists were weak and not even worth the time the author invested in them, Zorzal didn't get a satisfying death, several characters died in pathetic ways, and I can't even remember half of what happened because it didn't leave ANY impact (that and how long the series took to reach the end). The whole thing about the gate opening into some nightmare realm was too short, too.

Oh well. Here's hoping he sequel I keep hearing about gets a manga too.

feels pretty rushed to me as well. we had a whole political topic on one side which is just ignored and the damn prince is simply killed off on the side road. then our MC is stranded in the world (with enough gas for his car) and they keep doing their war relief job while trying to find a way to open the portal again.

i did enjoy the series greatly as a whole but this last arc was too big for such a quick ending.

Nice satisfying ending. There will be spin offs? Will be interested to read those as well.

I wonder if they are going to put this in the new season of the anime?

I know it was ending, but I wasn't expecting it to end this suddenly. Series was a great read either way.

There's another arc with the navy? I may or may not read that. If the JSDF is already curb stomping them on land and in the air, they probably are curb stomping them on the sea too. Also, it reminds me of another series that I haven't read about a Japanese aircraft carrier or something being isekaid or at least sent to the past...

Anyway, thanks for all the hardwork translators!

Now a little review for those who care:
  • Rare series with modern weapons VS fantasy so the premise is quite unique. Heck, it's my first one, and tbh I don't recall other series, at least on this scale. Can anyone recommend another good series? I can only reread Codex Alera so many times. Gawd I wish that gets an anime or manga adaptation...
  • I think JSDF has been winning 99.99% of the battles they were involved with. I know I know, modern Earth with all its technology and history is a huge advantage, but I would love to see the fantasy side have or grow to have a fighting chance.
  • I'm also aware the author wrote this series as a propaganda piece which is why the JSDF won not only vs the fantasy world, but also VS other countries. Do I have a problem with that? Not really since the US does that all the time, and IIRC the US military requires the US forces to win if they're using their vehicles in movies. Still, we missed out on a lot of interesting developments, and I respect the author that he still managed to tell an interesting story even it's behind propaganda-tinted glasses. He did more than whatever crap came out of Hollywood recently.
In a word without cannons even a 18th century iron clad is practically unkillable
