I believe the mangaka just roughly read the novel and filled in all the blanks with his absurd imagination at this point. I mean, what with that janitor? Why is he so ripped and fights like a master martial artist? "I'm just a mere janitor" my ass 🤣

And why their communication devices are the Famicom? The other one has the disc system attached, even. I just can't lmao

Mangaka is a big Jojo fan maybe? I'm just popping in but the poses and stuff can not be accidental.

She personally ordered the execution of innocent Japanese men, women (and children?) tourists in front of the Japanese diplomatic team.

She's far from a scapegoat, she's a fucking war criminal.
They're only war crimes if you have international agreements like the Geneva Convention to make them crimes. Otherwise it's just war.

Yes, the Japanese would consider it a war crime, but I haven't seen anything indicating that the rest of the world would, even if they find it distasteful.

...Why the fuck are they using an original Nintendo Famicom gaming console as a communication device?

Glad that I am not the only one to notice.

It was revealed in the previous chapter that the "janitor" was a former high ranking officer in the Empire, but resigned and took that job as penance for losing a major battle.

she could have escaped if she listened to what he said instead of jumping the gun...

Actually no, he was go to take her to the Navy base, where the same thing would have happened anyway.

Considering the relative levels of civilization we've seen, it's still a very medieval time where the strong decide what's right and wrong. War crimes only truly became a thing post-WW1, whereas before, there were tactics looked down upon for being "cowardly" or "against chivalry/moral codes", etc, but otherwise, exactly as you said.
