"they are no in good condition to be put for sale."-ish... just means the slaves are not obeying them and gets punished by being beaten up or worse.

but lemme ask ya guys. i feel that there are many slave-relatered mangas on the lately or is it just me?
It's a common trope in isekais and fantasy worlds in general, because our common sense does not apply there.

The continuing issue I have with the series is that the girls are the ones providing the MC with a moral compass.

He's pragmatic to the level of indifference most of the time.
I say it's more of a positive then negative narrative wise. He was established as ruthless long ago, yet never fell to position of, well, an a-hole like Eminence for example.
It is a dance between MC and the world to decide if one will be the end of other or live in balance and reason of his anturage to be there for him. Funnily enough they do him big favour by asking favours because it prevents confrontation between demon lord and the realm.
and then after he gets their trust, finds the org he kills all the slave traders and the org
By the narrative structure slavers must be dealt with in a self-destructive way, otherwise MC is in the wrong by laws of kingdom.

for sure, not lately but for a while, I blame shield bro, author gave excuse to actual made reasonable use of slave characters without making that much of a key factor but just to add some drama at the introduction of characters. (like the isekai walking, the use of the collar was super dumb though, but it was just to make a slave character...s)

rather than more lately, it's that so many that have slaves don't get cancelled, so end up being semi-long running, so there's just a lot in parallel

Counterpoint: it's possible his pupils got drunk on power and became douches.
Didn't he basically say his disciples got fooled by the higher ups of the Imperial Court according to chapter 1? He was betrayed by their government, made him a wanted man, and turned his disciple against him.
