so instead of listen to his mother wish and try to get along with his father, he decided to hide his power for no real reason until his father gave up on him then show it off...
of course the day he went out is also when the princess under attack so he can save her.
Fr tho 😭😭
The only reason he’s even mean to his son is because he’s ā€œuselessā€, so wouldn’t the problem have solved itself if he just didn’t wait to show off and just spill the beans early on so he could’ve skipped out on the torture and actually be treated decently? Outside of the father’s clear differentiation between superior and inferior people, who knows, hard maybe but, they MAY be an okay human being? Towards equals, I guess.

Alternate Universe Dialogue:

ā€œHey, I’m strong now.ā€
ā€œOh, okay. Sorry for everything. I’ll get you out of those chains now. I won’t beat you anymore.ā€
ā€œThanks.ā€
ā€œYuh.ā€

Is it just me, or does the princess look like the MC's mom?

I thought so too, when I first saw the teaser panels I thought he would learn healing magic from hearing and be able to save his mom, and adventure with his mom and the other harem girls. I’m a bit disappointed that he got a princess to substitute his mom instead; I think his mom was hotter.

Here’s hoping that he learns revival magic in the future and brings back his hot mom.

I’d love to read a Japanese manga take on Oedipus Rex one day.

I just had to check out of curiosity. It's Dungeon Harem Master all over again. And what was up with the change in POV/narrator on page 22?

And superhuman hearing = powerful mage has got to be the wildest leap in logic I've encountered when it comes to the "useless" skill trope. If knowing the incantation is all it takes to be able to cast magic, then wouldn't that make this schmuck comparatively weaker than, well, everyone? And if it takes more than just knowing the incantation to be able to cast magic, then wouldn't that make this guy, well, actually talented? And all that is not even considering how simply being able to hear any sound from anywhere in the world is broken AF.
I mean, I still think "hearing" makes more sense than "breathing". which yes, does indeed exist.

Ofc, the real problem is the logic of magic not being built to start with, but the ability to copy a technique through experiencing it (chanting, which presumably is strict in how things are spoken, being an auditory experience), does make sense here.

Do note that it's an evolution of the skill, not a base feature. I see it in the same vain as those "I can steal any technique I see", which I don't really see people complaing about that often.

Reading chapter 2, seems magic is also locked behind your gift, meaning it's linked to the gods that give gifts, so normally just knowing the chant won't work, but guess that's irrelevant, because some god just wanted to do a funny and invented this "hearing" gift.

Oh, wow, I missed this series! (not)

Joking aside, my issue with "hearing" as a skill in this series is that it has so much potential (both as a power and in terms of storytelling) and yet it was reduced to a mimic skill with extra steps.

I'd even argue that I'm willing to turn off my brain and accept hearing as it is presented here... except the storyboarding is just so atrocious that it immediately kills any attempt at suspending my disbelief. This is my real beef with this series (and why I referenced Dungeon Harem Master in my original comment). Even compared to the breathing manga - holy leaps in logic, Batman! I see what you mean when you pointed it out - at least that one appears to be a slightly, slightly, better-told story (I'm not going to read it, though).

Oh yea, I only took issue with you saying that hearing was a leap in logic because it's not that bad, especially when chanting for magic exists (tho shoutout to the fact that we learn later that he's actually doing chantless magic, so that whole aspect is void and null lmao). Everything else so far has been really bad in terms of both pacing, and logic (As mentioned, he has technically become talented, he could've just shown that to his dad and just left normally, instead of the backassward wait through years of torture then just leaving).
