NGL i saw the title and i thought this was somehow a FGO spin-off or a back story for goetia. Based on the earlier comments , i think this series will be good!

i think its a little bit early to make a judgement on it but overall it seems promising. there's some interesting moral questions being posed with that angel. the art style impresses. the characters dont seem to be one dimensional (so far). i hope the series continues to be focused and doesnt turn into the classic "and then this happened, and then that happened, and then that happened" storytelling that seems common with these stories. i'm hopeful for a satisfying ending.

The logic of "Spirits hate him because demons like him" is kind of shaky, but I'm enjoying the story so far otherwise.

There is a fundemental issue with the idea that the demons/ devil can be good-natured, but slightly flawed characters, who can do tremendous good given a certain circumstance. And that heaven, angels and god would be hypocrits/ evil/ heavily flawed characters. The fundemental issue in this setup is that you don't actually do anything. You think you are subverting expectations and creating some moral dilemmas, but in reality you aren't. You are just lying to yourself and the readers. Those that whisper sweet lies and don't want you to be happy are the demons. Even if you, as an author, specifically go out of your way to portray and call them angels and god and all, in the story, they represent evil and are thus the demons. And the opposite is also true. The "demons" are the actual metaphors for the angels and god. They are the ones that give you the tough battles to fight and the tough burdens to carry. But if you manage to carry on and keep yur resolve, they are the ones that are the happiest for your success.

So I think what I am really trying to say is that the author and most readers of this trope, do not understand christianity and the bible. This isn't necesarily a bad thing, you can write, and enjoy stories even with flawed understanding of different topics.

This dude seems to think Demons and angels are exclusive to christianity lol.

Also, you can't consider christianity and the Ars Goetia or Key of Solomon to be compatible. They are mutually exclusive because in christianity you can't bind/bargain with/use demons which is what the Ars Goetia/Key of Solomon are about.

This manga isn't based on christian theology, its based on hermetic mysticism, so saying "waaaahhh this isn't real christianity" is silly. Of course its not. It's heresy at best.

Yes, mb. While writing that comment I was thinking a lot about other things as well, so I accidentally mixed in christianity, but generally speaking, the point of the big part still stands. Demons, and their equivalents, are in almost every culture harbringers of different issues. They will tempt you to do evil, offer you things in exchange for unknown, but terrible consequences or outright harm you. Oftentimes they will have counterparts that support, help or challange you to do better. If you invert the roles, but keep the names, you don't really change anything. And that is regardless of what religion or culture the material is based on. Of course, I am biased, since I grew up in a christian houshold, so I sometimes, seeing familiar terms, names, etc, forget that works can be based on other belief systems as well. Thus, I may have chosen the wrong work to leave this comment under. I didn't mean to come off as "waaaahhh this isn't real christianity", I just wanted to make an observation.

Now, I don't actually know anything about hermetic mysticism, so I can't prove or disprove your claim that this was based on that system. Thus I can't really agree or disgaree with what you said, but I wanted to elaborate a bit on my actual point, which I got confused over while writing my previous comment.

Also, I don't mean to offend you with this or anything. I don't mean to attack you or anyone else. So if you take offense to what I wrote, I apologize. Have a nice rest of the day and have fun reading!

I could see this being an anime. Surprised no studio picked it up yet.

man waiting for 6 months to get the confirmation that it did not get axed, such a beautiful and amazingly good story and setup, execution with the story of the side characters and the stories of the demons, using the cliched plotline with amazing execution and the emotions were on peak for me. Read it, you'll love it...

The manga’s ending is not that bad though.
Actually, I think the parts drastically changed by the manga is much better than the WN.

For example
We’re spared from a lot of Crocell and Focalor’s harem member catfight for Norman’s attention.

Focalor didn’t even give him any trial like the storm to test his character. She just fall for his negotiation that because she wants to be like angel who guide people to good, he will do it together with her.

The WN didn’t put Norman as hardworking like how the manga started. It’s just the usual trope of a plain guy being condemned for being talentless. Even the teacher is telling him to give up. Manga’s version teacher and Regal is much more sympathetic, not cardboard villain.

The demons like Norman because he is talented in commanding demons, not because his pure soul. So Norman’s alignment is opposite, he’s good in the manga, and seems to be evil in the WN.

The demon summoning pace is much slower. While in the manga we did have some one-off demons like the crow when he need to rebuild his house... the WN version summoned more demons with battle ability, so the battle scenes often turns into Norman repeatedly invoking the demons like card game monsters.
Meanwhile, in the manga, he can use the elemental power from the sigil without having to invoke the demon’s name each time.
Jellyfish is in the manga only.

Vassago’s arc is manga only.

WN’s Regal is really just a cheap antagonist.
In the WN, he got an older brother he respected, but after finding out his brother is bullied in the school and try to hide it from the family, he is traumatised and decide he will not be weak. When seeing Norman unable to use magic, it reminds him of his brother, and he decide to bully Norman.
After he lost to Norman (not draw), he felt his position is threatened as people begin to think he’s weak. So he tried to bully Dimitri, but again got beaten by Dimitri in duel.

There are multiple Ars Goetia created when a candidate for king appears.

Also the ending in the manga at least give a closure.
In the WN version, the fight against Billeth is done without summoning Asmoday.
Norman still managed to hide the fact he is summoning demons.
His father came to beg him to return. Norman accept, with the condition that his father would help to cover up the fact he is commanding demons. Norman still plan to rule over all the 72 demons.

In the manga version.
Esland family is stripped from their nobility and wealth after many witnessed the family’s two sons are using demon. Dimitri is left unconscious after the possession, while Norman is let off the hook with only getting expelled.
Regal offered to marry Nene, and in exchange his family will take over all Esland’s assets under them. This means he can at least let Norman’s father and sister living as before.
Foscal explained, the demons want to took down god, and give a world of no suffering to human. Norman can be their commander against god. But Norman rejected it, preferring a world where human can experience and overcome difficulties. Thus, the demons leave him, he can’t fulfil their wish. Orobas is the one who felt most betrayed, because he likes human, but his summoner betrayed him.
Because the demons had left him, Norman begin to hear voice of the spirits. And because he’s blacklisted, he is planning to study abroad.
