Just because a certain extreme exists it doesn't mean anything less extreme is going on as well. I mean, if we were talking about someone who's clearly not functional because of their fascination with a given idol then it'd be believable, but MC is perfectly functional.

While he's a compromised fan he's clearly a healthy fan, as such being this hurt over missing the concert feels out of place, it could be justified if the general culture of Japan predisponed him to react like this but it doesn't seem to be the case for me, I feel like the author is just projecting and they are that kind of fan, or that they don't really understand how people work.
