Are you saying they literally spent so much effort translating dozens of chapters just to steal that translation from the current team for a short time?

Since I started playing Umamusume: Pretty Derby, I’ve been constantly lurking in Umamusume communities on Reddit, so I have a pretty good picture of what’s going on there.

On November 5th, @Korsan854, also known as Nededinnededinn on Reddit, Xcution77777 on MangaPark, and Xcution on bato.to, made a post on Reddit announcing that he had decided to translate chapters of Cinderella Gray. He said he planned to release very fast updates and quickly catch up with the raws.

In the comments, he was advised not to do it, especially not to upload the chapters to MangaDex, and at first, he agreed. By that point, he had already uploaded chapters 150 and 151 to MangaDex, but deleted them after getting shit on, exactly as he had been warned would happen.

The following is a comment from the person who told him not to upload there, followed by his reply saying he would delete the chapters:

So, he actually ‘translated’ chapters 150 to 195 and uploaded them to bato.to and Mangapark. He stopped at 195 because someone on X had already translated chapters 196 to 206. So he only really worked on chapters 150 to 195; the other ones he uploaded here are not his work.

As for why he went back on his word and uploaded the chapters here, I assume he saw other people sniping the manga, noticed some positive reactions to chapters 151 and 208, and thought, ‘Fuck it, if some people are appreciating it, I might as well upload my shit too.’ But he didn’t stop at uploading his own work; he also uploaded someone else’s.

While I don't particularly like the manga getting sniped due to the lower quality translation, does it really matter that much? Wouldn't it just give impatient people the ability to read ahead while the rest of us wait for a higher quality translation? Genuinely curious, as I don't know too much about this stuff or the culture regarding it.

I did this because both mangapark and batoto is about to die. If you actually go and check the chapters I uploaded there (Good luck at even entering mangapark btw) You will see that most of the chapters has broken pages because image servers went delulu. Probably in a matter of 2-3 months mangadex will be the only website you can properly upload anything.

Sure… it’s not like the manga is about to end and every aggregator site has already pulled all the chapters you uploaded to Bato... Whatever, man. Some people just want a centralized reading site and dont care whatever drama between translation groups. You can whine as much as you want about sniping, remember no one here own the rights to the manga. Feeling entitled to monopolize the fan translation of a manga is incredibly arrogant. We’re all navigating muddy waters here.

I’m not saying that calling out someone when they’re purposely sniping few chapters ahead with low quality work while asking for money isn’t legitimate. However as there are people who wont compromise on quality, there are some who will want the translation as fast as possible, shaming them wont get you anywhere. I fully believe both sides can coexist on Mangadex.

Now with that being said, uploading translations that arent yours to begin with is crossing the line in my opinion. You should take those down unless you ave the authorization of the original translator and keep yours.
