While yes that doesn't excuse what she did at all she will eventually come to understand the consequences of both her actions and inactions. her actions in regards to cheating on Eiji and her inaction in regards to denying the allegations that Eiji was abusing her physically which led to Eiji getting bullied.

Also your suggestion for how Miyuki should have acted comes off as extremely manipulative rather than diplomatic. There is absolutely no way to be diplomatic if/when caught in a cheating affair. Eiji Mom is correct the only "diplomatic" way was through mutual breakup or growing apart due to different interests as people age. But Miyuki didn't realize her mistake was basically the equivalent of scorched earth (for her and Eiji, this event would leave a permanent scar).
I never said Miyuki would be diplomatic making that. Precisely that is my point, if she really wanted manipulate Eiji and conserve him as her "back-up" while she was "having fun" with Kondo, she should have done the early mentioned.

There was absolutely no favor done here for Eiji. Eiji did not burn anything at all nor is he starting from zero. Instead, what he finds are immeasurable treasures in the people and friends around him that he can rely on after being socially ravaged unjustly.

Japanese Ethos: You're constrained and have to follow rules of society. If you do something bad, it's because you were tainted (maybe through no fault of your own, maybe through a small choice/action). Once tainted, you're ruined goods (unless some pure person comes along and somehow cleanses you (e.g. Naruto, Danmachi, etc.).
Also Japanese Ethos: Purity. E.g. Eiji and Miyuki never even kissed, which means that Eiji is still 'pure' and hasn't yet given away his 'first kiss'. Vs. Miyuki and soccer boy had sex -- now she's irreversibly tainted.
Plus JP tendency towards sadism: Miyuki is screwed now. She's lost Eiji. Eiji's mom hates here. Miyuki's own mom is at least going to be thoroughly angry, and very possibly hate her.
Western PoV: Since Miyuki is genuinely regretful, we expect her to try to fix it somehow. But JP PoV: she's already too thoroughly tainted to fix it.
