Why do people make art?

The purest souls would say "to convey a feeling"
But we aren't all pure souls

Personally, most of the time, I just have an Idea in my head and I need to get it out.
Or, it is more that the idea takes possession of my body to give itself a physical form in our realm
I don't really care about anyone feelings

When I was a friendless forum dweller (not this one) I was doing things so people seeing it would say
"You re so funny and smart I love you"
A need to feed my ego and to be loved

Some days ago, one of my video worked very well (for my standards) so I felt compelled to make another one.
I was watching some anime in French (because I make YoutubePoop in French so I have to watch anime in French, what makes my weeb soul cries tears of French blood) and I studently felt ashamed of myself
"I saw some big numbers so now I'm trying to replicate the video to get more big numbers?
Am I so easily manipulated by the algorithm?"
Yes I am, so I didn't do it.

And I guess some people make art because it's their job

What is art anyways?

Humans have an innate desire to create (at least that's what I like to think), be it a painting, a song, a treehouse, sandcastle, etc. Bring small children, as an example, to the beach and they'll want to do something with the sand without being told to, even if it isn't a sandcastle and just a sandhill. Sometimes they keep their creation for themselves, sometimes they proudly show it to their parents, expecting praise. This doesn't make their creation (art) any less of what it is, the sandhill remains the same.

People like to romanticise the idea of a Starving Artist, but this just remains an ideal, something not really worth encouraging in my opinion. Bills have to be paid, food needs to be on the tables and medical expenses regardless of country are not cheap. If you truly want to devote yourself to your craft in a healthy way, you need to have a way to live from it.

Basically how to express yourself. But sharing your express to other and getting to know other expression is just another way how human consume. A manga is an art.

There still plenty of good artist who sacrifice their being unfortunately, even when there is nothing to worry about food or bill.


Happen too many times, there is this invisible threshold that artist must not cross that make artist incredibly miserable after cross it. Doesn't matter if it's sculpture, painting, music, or anything.

Well, the terminology around art is a bit fucked, IMO.
Like, I kinda feel like people only use the term Art correctly when it comes from differentiating against synthetic media, but otherwise it gets applied willy-nilly, probably due to "artist" being a description for drawers or illustrators.

But for the reasons for creation, there do be some of them.

Money + Fame: One of the most visible ones are by the soldiers of fortune that draw boring illustrations of attractive anime women en masse with the same creativity as a T2I(Text-To-Image Model), there is no actual interest behind these pictures, they are supposed to look good, get likes and lure people on Patreon or other moneymaking platforms. A pretty good example is the "Fan art" that appeared shortly after a character of a popular franchise got unveiled. Most of the image was already prepared, but after the reveal, the details that made it recognizable as that character were added in order to be one of the first who had illustrations of the newly revealed character. This pretty much applies to most twitter "artists". I do not consider this to be art.
Note: This is not about anyone that sells their works to disqualify them, but for those who mass produce slop en masse without a thought behind it.

More self-explanatory and actually artistic reasons are self-expression, idea realisation, communication

Definitely not for money, right (copium??) So how do they survive? How do they get exposure to survive? For the most part, they don't get exposure and don't survive.
What survives is what gives returns on investment, profit so to say. So it gets investments because it makes money, not because it's art (primarily at least.)

Of course, that's not mentioning the art of crafting that you'd pay for because of the knowledge and skills required that you can't have, which makes that type of investment worth it even if it's not bringing in profit. That's not a very niche use of art; I just don't see manga that way and more like a money-making industry for the most part. That's why I didn't talk about art in this way.
