Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays for one.

Second. Remember when the entire plot was about trying to make things better for everyone, like rideable mech ponies and slightly interesting doodads that make life easier for people?

Now we have Jellyfish, T-posing crab mechas, battleships, Stealth Bomber fighters, a Sun for some reason, What's his name making an appearance again, aerial bombardment, holo screens, combat golems, a romance that hasn't been mentioned in like 20 chapters, a gravity generator holding up this planet, a railgun loli, a kingdom that thinks crossbows and medieval weaponry are the latest technology when they know someone who shoots lasers, an Awacs, and a whole other list of things that just takes the suspension of disbelief and launches it into the void.

To think I was annoyed at the surfing Golem competition, how naive I was...

Its a little different from the novel, but at least they kept the fact that his fighting style was controlling monsters.
He ( and the monsters ) just are abit more robotic than organic unlike from the novel.

If it was only several thousand years since the fall of the previous civilization, wouldn't the current humans be the same species as the ancient AI's masters? Wiping out humanity would seem contrary to their purpose, unless maybe there are more original humans sleeping away somewhere in a vault, or maybe even on the other planet. Or maybe these humans are descendants of slave labor or a penal colony, and the AI doesn't care about their survival? Or it yas been hundreds of thousands of years, and the previous civilization was one of many to fall into technological dark ages.

That's what annihilation means, yes.
Annihilation is a military strategy in which an attacking army seeks to entirely destroy the military capacity of the opposing army. He's saying that it goes beyond just destroying their military capacity to total destruction- elimination of their entire force, not just the military units.

Genetic drift over several thousand years. Sure you could trace it through history, but it wouldn't be the same one. More than likely it's making an argument for the magi meister factor to be genetic somehow; feels like they were meant to be an overseer-type, so could be as you suggested that the other humans are actually genetically different.
