I have to wonder why they even bothered making a manga if they weren't going to progress it past the source. Or why they chose something that got abandoned to begin with?

Well, I guess what is here makes for a pretty damn good prologue for a larger story, better than having it stop in the middle of an arc or something.

That's it? Wasn't the series about killer insects? If it was just a lame love story, then all that post-apocalyptic context was unnecessary.

This is... Awful.

Not bc of the resolution of the conflict, but because it is the ONLY resolution we got and will ever get. Disappointment on the same scale as the maid series albeit for entirely different reasons

The concept was amazing. The characters had incredible potential. The conflict was gripping, and the lore and world setting were compelling.

So disappointing to see it end at what might as well be a prologue with that build-up.

But, I guess for what we've been given, thinking of it as a prologue, it was good.
I wish I could give more thought to Ayumi's choice with Reika; knowing we won't be getting more, I guess it's "tidy", if nothing else. Not particularly poignant, and certainly feels like a comma, more than a period.

Just kinda depressing, and wholly unsatisfying purely because it was so good, up to that point.
Alas.

The TL note at the end concerning the title was illuminating, though.
So thank you for your work on this series. I don't think we got nearly enough, but I'm grateful that you put this out here for me to find even in its larval stage like this.

For anyone wondering, yes, as the TL notes say, that's where the original web novel ended.

The web novel was already abandoned by the time the manga started. Not axed: it's self published by the author. He just decided to end it there.

The only person to blame here is whoever at the manga company decided it was a good idea to adapt an old unfinished story. At least it was good while it lasted... Oh well.
