thanks! I'm sure some ppl like higher stakes but i'm enjoying the pace of this (plus there's that other collector series if ppl want more lore haha)

and lol of course there's always greedy businessmen. it'd prolly draw too much aggression/attention but i'd be tempted to open a store right next door to run him outta business or i guess cut out the middleman and seek out some adventurers and give them a better deal, since even if he is a collector i'm sure he'd be willing to sell some of his extras as opposed to just hoarding it all (if not secretly sneaking back at night and using a waterspell to flood his business but not worth the risk of getting caught/arrested xD)

at least he didn't get his materials stolen

an invisible shop seems cool tho i wonder how many higher ranker adventurers see thru it (tho i wonder if he would've seen it if he tried using an appraisal/survey skill if it works on buildings versus herbs/monsters)

Im sorry but its really funny and out of character to just walk into a store for the first time and just say out loud "Why is everything so expensive and bad quality?" to the owner. Might as well just start throwing hands before saying anything at that point.

NGL, if I walked into a grocery store where boxed foods were expired, most of the produce was wilted and even the mostly overripe and rotten stuff was over priced, I too would likely shout a few expletives before exiting.

In this case it was easier for the merchant to pass off his castoffs and inferior goods as viable products. As long as they have some ability to restore health, fatigue, or mana he isn't outright lying that they are low quality potions. And as the only real potion seller in town, he gets to set the price.

OTOH, the local lord and or guild master are utterly shit at their jobs. While true the apothecary/merchants guild should have some leeway to regulate their own members. Letting some crooked asshat endanger and swindle the local population like that shows just how incompetent the the city leadership really is.

Oh it's been a while. Nice.

It's definitely an odd thing to do, especially since he shouldn't have much context regarding the proper prices for the potions. He does have some context for the prices of the ingredients by now though and he should be aware that the skill to make these potions isn't widespread since this is literally the only alchemist around (well there's another one in the periphery of the town with a shop that's usually invisible and is know for driving out customers so that's not much of an alternative.) I guess it's possible he appraised the potion and then also considered their prices compared to what he's been making in the adventurer's guild and since he's fairly successful, finding the potions to be difficult to afford does lead to some questions. Everyone else is complaining about the prices too.

I think it can also make sense to ask why a product is more expensive to learn of the circumstances that lead to that, as there may be a bottleneck in the supply chain and this guy is literally a material collector.

As for the bad quality, I'm not sure that's what he meant. The other adventurers were mentioning that they were buying low grade potions so it might be that the alchemist is only putting those on display.

But yeah, it's probably just a case of "this fat alchemist is greedy, let's make it extra obvious".
