One wonders if this is an intentional farce to defame the "Officially Dead" Captain, or if this is just some thugs taking advantage of the news of his death. Personally I would be more inclined to belive that this is the first of the assassins to be sent to make sure the good Captain's reputation is stained and tie up any loose ends while in the process.

He's a military man. He has saved tens of thousands in the same manner. But it's harder to throw yourself at the Captain when there are layers of grunts garding camp and a childhood friend with bedroom eyes protecting his tent.

So this is just the natural consequence of his relitively sheltered military life. I'm only surprised that the Saint isn't standing behind him with ominous black smoke billowing around her head, neck, and shoulders.

Beast Waifu acquired, I can only presume next will be an elf or some other fantasy race. Hoping MC can bone down with Ellie soon tho, I can only imagine after his fiancee cheated on him and his only companions being literal children for weeks(?) he's pretty pent-up.

That possibility hadn't even occurred to me. I'll feel sorry for the MC if the kingdom is determined to continue harassing him rather than let him disappear into a quiet life.
