The death of Kentaro Miura really changed this whole series direction huh? We are just doing Berserk, and that’s fine but it’s not what this series set up in chapter 1. This was clearly a comedy, until it wasn’t

Basically this. It went from wonderfully lewd role reversal world with comedy elements to bizarre edgelord nonsense. There's no problem with intrigue and more serious moments, but let's not kid ourselves. This was clearly meant to be an ecchi comedy, and now it's teemu berserk. Not really digging the change, but will stick around to see how it goes.

I don't get it, what are they fighting for again?
Caroline's followers, at this point, out of spite for having Caroline get killed after they fucked everything up and shoved their heads in the ground as they continued doing so.

The princess and her entourage (Polidoro and his people included)? To try and save what few people survived that "fucking everything up" Caroline and her followers did, and stay alive long enough to get out of this whole mess and return to their kingdom.
As a group of underprepared, experience-less knights and militia vs a group of full-on experienced knights trained for war.

Basically they know they are fucked and cant do anything and use this Valhalla bullshit as their last cope. Keep trying to at least die by Faust's hand so their little life has meaning and become a ticket to Valhalla.

Total bullshit but that's how you brainwash someone to become a soldier.

Thanks for translating this up to this point.

The inital concept drew readers in with booba and expectations of zorno, but then ended taking the setting seriously.
This story should've been published in a seinen magazine, rather than a shounen one, I feel.

I don't get it, what are they fighting for again?
There was a power struggle in the neighboring country, and the losing side's noble, a woman named Caroline, and her army, invaded their territory after being ousted to kidnap villagers - especially young boys - to offer as a gift to the other country they were fleeing to.

And that's kind of a Big Fucking Deal™ for them because the male-to-female ratio in this world is a single man for every nine women (1:9). Losing that many young boys is absolutely crippling to the local villages, and for the country they're fleeing to, being offered that many young boys would be a huge windfall.

The Princess's battalion was under the impression that they were just dealing with bandits, not an actual army - they had nowhere nearly enough womanpower or support to tackle something like this, even with the legendary Lord Polidoro with them.

After making the decision to draft the village women into their fighting force, they managed to defeat the invading army, but one or two of the enemy soldiers survived and tried to take down as many of them as possible.

I also want to clarify, the person who killed Hanna is either one of the village boys, or a squire (which would give meaning to Zabine looking for the carriage driver last chapter). You can see this character show up first on Chapter 9 page 2 (outside the cage away from the other prisoners) and again on chapter 12 page 20. I'm thinking squire.

Did valhalla girl not think that they’d all be killed?

Did she not think about any consequences at all?

She basically saw the consequences of her own actions and rather than accomplish anything is just giving up.

I get honorbound characters and stuff but I hate how brainless her “honor” really is. She isn’t fighting for anything anymore and got everyone killed already, but I’ll hand it to the author this was a GOOD character even if I really hate her stupidity because most overly idealistic people who don’t ground themselves atleast somewhat end up like this.

Hope Valerie and her goons stay safe.
She had a head wound and was traumatized by losing all her comrades. She just wanted somekind of trophy to take with her to the grave.

Holy shit it’s back from hiatus hell.

Thanks for the translation! Super nice to read a long chapter after a while.

Thanks webnovel readers for confirming that this is actually exactly the way the source work was moving. I fucking knew at least one of her named guards would die. There’s just no way they got out of this without a sacrifice for Val’s character growth. I was pissed if it was Polidoro’s adjutant, glad she escaped.

The cooldown chapter from this battle is going to be nuts.

I think you guys are forgetting that this is a world with a 10:1 female-to-male ratio, not just reversed morality. In this setting, men are precious resources, and no one would let them die in a war. Imagine it: if every man doesn't have at least 10 children, humanity will go extinct. That’s why the villagers risk their lives to take their men back. Since that village is currently all-female, no men will ever visit, and it will die out in a few years.

The changes from the WN are really interesting too. Originally it's a soldier that breaks through the battle line with a crossbow and shoots at Valiere, giving Hanna enough time to cover her. A totally random soldier (heavily implied in the manga to be the soldier we see Zabine kill here) Changing it to a young squire (or maybe village boy??), really emphasizes the blood rage Valiere's lineage is known for.

I'm not sure if it better emphasizes the advice that her sister gave her or messes with it. It being after the battle is pretty much wrapped up does make it clearer that "you never know what will happen," but it was after the battle was over. They were in the mop up period.

This manga has serious issues with implying motion in its action scenes. I have no damn idea what was going on for most of Helga's fight with the chick that got Zabined.
It's not too confusing to me.

Helga slides out of the way of the horse rider's swing and cuts the horse's leg off.

Afterwards it's basically only Helga blocking the soldier's sword swings until Helga drops her sword and tricks the solder into driving her sword into the mud.

Then she grabs the soldier's sword hand and stabs her with a knife.

When trying to finish off the soldier, Helga's injured arm acts up preventing her from doing so.

The soldier takes advantage of this, grabs Helga's arm, and twists it to get an opening for a headbutt on Helga.

After the headbutt, the soldier stuns Helga with a kick to the jaw.

Before she can coup de grace Helga, she takes a crossbow bolt through her chest and another through her cheek into her eye.

Which is really wild, because this isn't how the LN goes either. That follows the WN more closely in how it happens. Just some random gal with a crossbow who ignites the bloodrage. Valiere (Valiele in the official translation for some reason) gouges out her eyes, slices off her ear, stomps her head in, and then plunges her sword into her chest.

No Helga being held hostage. Just someone managing to pop up with a crossbow.

At least we got to see Zabine being even more of a badass to counter her being such an absolute dumbass. Zabine is great.
