A more dramatic series I could see this: Mahiro either trying to will herself to like Asahi in a fake-it-till-she-makes-it sense or just naturally discovering she's homoflexible and dealing with the fallout from that. But I don't see things going this route given how the other stories went and it being more about "the harsh & disappointing but very normal reality".

Well she already knows asahi is dating a guy so she's not gonna try to like 'steal' him /make a move or anything versus some fleeting feeling of "if i met a guy like you it'd be fine" but i can imagine she's prolly tried it with a guy in the past if not just been physically repulsed by some touch or so and always preferred girls for a while (but it must be pretty confusing growing up gay to where a girl you might like be like "ew boys are gross" to being boy crazy overnight/once puberty hits XP)

The mangaka hasn't made anything of "same-gender practice relationships" with Mahiro so I'm going with the explanation she is hard-gay gay (and not merely Hardgay gay. WOOOOO), since even if she isn't firmly gay its unlikely we'd see that shift happen in the scope of this arc.
Any homoflexibility she's showing is almost certainly to address her pathos at "Love my best friend, they are absolutely solidly boy-crazy straight, and I really wish she'd find a good guy so I can give up on this doomed path because I can't as long as there is hope, and I'd be ok if that was you"
