Do not spoil what you have with by desiring what you have not, but remember that what you now have was once among the things only hoped for.

That resonated with me.
Recently, I was jealous of this guy for being able to create a game, be good at writing a story for that game, and also be able to draw well too. He's got 3 things that I couldn't do, and he's humble about it too so I don't even have a justified reason to hate him. I have motivation to get good at these now, but I hope I won't just give up in a month.

But I suppose I ought to list out what I do have that I once hoped for.
I did hope to learn Japanese enough to watch anime without subtitles. I still can't do that, but I can say that I passed the JLPT n3 now (even though it took me years to get here). And I suppose graduating college was also an only a desire but now a reality.

I hope when I look back at this comment in the future, I'll be able to say I have what I am desiring right now.

Thanks for the tl kind sir/mrs you’re on fire rn

I wonder how frequent is a high schooler smoking offense in japan or any first rate country in this era, since in my country there’s basically a kiosk in front of the school gate that sells cigarettes by the individual piece with a lighter hanging by a thread lol

100% guarantee that dude has somebody he thinks is amazing and he could never match. Sometimes that's a person, sometimes that's simply him from that one time where he was really locked in. Everyone has some standard they'd like to live up to, the choice to let that motivate or deter is the individuals. Glad you're choosing the former.

Not sure it's a choice.

Not sure it's a choice.
Depends on how conscious a person is about such feelings. They may feel intimidated or inspired by someone or something without realizing it. In that case, it's not a choice. But once they realize the connection, I believe they can mold it to their advantage. Not saying it's always easy though.

Euthanasia on humans is complicated. Overall, I support it because of the quality if life issue he brings up and for general bodily autonomy. But it also brings into question who can consent to being euthanized and bias of who gets suggested euthanasia. For example, people without the mental capacity to consent or has their so called guardian determine their life isn't worth living. Or if someone can't afford to do a procedure, they may be suggested euthanasia more than someone who can. Receiving such a suggestion from a trusted medical professional is going to hit a lot harder than the internet or just some guy saying it. It's complicated, this is why studying ethics is so important

I got a whole rant about eugenics and designer babies too but man I don't want to get into it, especially with people in my life going the surrogate route. Like I don't judge them for doing a mutually consensual procedure and they are paying the lady well but ughhhhhhhhh I can't post what I just wrote, it is way too tmi and unrelated to the chapter as a whole
