Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

Upon uploading content, the user confirms to us that they are authorized by the copyright owner to upload the material, so there is some additional nuance regaring one user or point in time versus another. The issues with the loli content is more intrinsically related to the material itself, so you can expect it to be enforced more strictly to some degree.

The titles were wiped because it was the safest and fastest action to take at the time. We want to have the title pages available, though some of them have covers that might require editing beforehand.

Our legal department told us to take action and we took it. That is the extent of what I can or want to say regarding that.
Other people have already clowned on you for this statement so I shall post at you instead.

Do you, the developers, have ANY plans for actual resiliant operations beyond the short term and can you share them with us? I mean outside of selling subscriptions while Tristan9 (CTO of Namicomi and former MD staff) swims around in his pool of money like Scrooge McDuck and MangaDex burns, do you have anything else?

There were mentions earlier today of users potentially contacting publishers to come fuck you up again because you want so badly to be "compliant", would you survive that as a business?

How do you feel about Pace Capital (NamiComi's million dollar investor) recently wanting to de-risk their NamiComi investment?

Seriously, the way this whole thing is looking is like Tristan9, who came in after the big hack and played a major part in the MDv5 rewrite, was setting up NamiComi while making sure MD was re-written as a closed-source platform to prevent any clones down the line. Then, when the next crisis came about, he was conveniently positioned to "help" MD with legal issues, which just happened to require NamiComi to take over MD operations.

So someone, who wasn't one of the founding members, took over a community that didn't belong to him, then gifted it to himself wholesale, and is now posed to profit from it at the expense of the users, contributors, and scanlation groups that made MD what it is.

If I'm mistaken here, then please, have the MD staff issue an official statement as to the full extent of the MD / NamiComi relationship, how it's relevant to the current controversy, and what it means for the future of MD.

I understand why you're looking for a public "verdict" here, but we don't handle internal staff matters or disciplinary actions out in theopen.
Just because we're not posting a public list of punishments that doesn't mean the situation is being completely ignored or that the entire team shares one person's specific phrasing (in this case for example no one does, for pretty obvious reasons).
Right now we're trying to focus on fixing the tension in teh community and making sure our internal standards are met once again, but we won't be doing public "resignations" over a heated thread.
You're not even gonne give @EtherealNeko a warning on their username for personal attack like how some users get theirs? What a fucking joke. I guess it takes a long time for the devs/mods to generate a corpo mumbo jumbo damage control response huh.

Real time Crunchyroll-ification.
I think that I feel genuinely betrayed before anything else. Memories of when Mangarock went full corpo and decided to shoot themselves all those years back are coming back to me. Only this time it's so much worse, since my library is now so much bigger than it was back then, and DMCA crackdowns are so much worse nowadays.

You guys want to go the way of Mangarock? Go the fucking way of Mangarock then, corporate scum. I hope this website crashes and burns and you lose every fucking penny you and the NamiComi fucks spent.

An announcement regarding this situation and a demotion of Neko is coming soon. I bet it on the souls of everyone who's commented here.
Don't bet my soul on something that's not certain, lol.

An announcement? Probably. But I doubt they'll convey anything that actually explains the situation.

Demoting Neko? Maybe. Or maybe they just give her a new username and hope nobody notices. Or replace her with a different NamiComi employee. Regardless, nothing likely to result in any meaningful change.

About the only thing they can do now to actually rectify the situation is to be more transparent about their relationship with NamiComi and what it means. And then take back management from a for-profit corporation and return it to the scanlation community that built this site.

The staff greatly misunderstand their own importance to the majority of the userbase here.

We're not here for them, most of us don't care about them. We're here to read manga for free. Hell most of the userbase don't even come here into the forums.

BUT When they take away our manga, we're gonna look for an explanation and when that explanation is cognitively dissonant, no we're not just gonna roll over and show our bellies to you.

When people give MD money as support, they're not doing it because they like the staff or want to support the staff, though I acknowledge it does. They're doing it because they want to help the site operate.

This whole scandal reeks of self-importance and a complete misunderstanding of our "relationship" here.

I'm gonna go back to lurking now, but I hope yall keep the grilling up. Cheers.
