Some characters lack talent, a fervent passion or self-knowledge, but...

LOLI OF THE DAY

Sakura.Nene.full.2128056.jpg

Nene Sakura (New Game!)

A heroine for those who have grown up but lack purpose in life, as they drift like a sailing boat pushed by the wind.

Sakura.Nene.full.3648197.jpg

Nene is the best friend of Aoba Suzukaze, the protagonist of the series. Both of them graduate from school and take different paths: Aoba joins a game company as an artist, whereas Nene enters university. She enjoys campus life, keeps her otaku routine without any worries and attends lectures like a normal continuation of high school. She is quite self-centered, so her usual whims and attachment to Aoba guide her idle time to play around and being goofy with Aoba when they meet up.

At some point, when she can't hang out with Aoba that frequently, university starts feeling tedious and this idleness annoys her, she gets a chance to become involved with Aoba's company. This experience feels awarding for her, which pushes her to search for that something she's missing, something she can do instead of remaining as the shadow of Aoba. She also discovers she has no strong points nor skills that could make her as remarkable of Aoba. That's when she bumps up with something even her can do: learning programming. She's neither good or bad at it, but she's determined to study it (in addition to her university itinerary) and she will keep at it, through trial and error.

Started in 2013 and with a total of 13 volumes, New Game! is a story centered in a workplace where the protagonist will grow and meet a large cast of characters. Rare is the character in this story that ends being the same as it started, everyone effort and personality will shape the progress of this slice of life comedy. Published by none other than Manga Time Kirara, the 4-koma doesn't stop the series from becoming engaging or fresh at every chapter. Later, by 2016 we had the pleasure to have the first season of the anime adaptation, followed by an OVA and the second season in 2017. This time around, the adaptation wasn't conclusive but helped us discover this fantastic series that we could look forward to see continue every week.

You may be wondering, why this character but not the protagonist, who also fits the bill to be qualified as loli? The answer is simple: Nene makes you fall in love with her the longest the story goes, moving from being a bratty student to a full-developed character that stands in its own feet. For many years, Shoutarou Tokunou used her as her profile picture in social media whereas he has always used her mascot (a hedgedog) for any afterwords or interviews from the beginning. Nowadays he has Mimisuke on social media, the main character of Idol x Idol Story, another hit everybody should read and may also be able to watch in the future! Another two great lolis await in there. Surely, we will get it, right?

Since Carnival is being celebrated in many places and children here wear fancy dresses every year, one loli alone won't suffice to decide which one they want to be. That's why, I'm going to make an exception with these ones...

LOLIS OF THESE PAST DAYS

fate-kaleid-miyu-edelfelt.gif

Miyu Edelfelt (Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA)

To start with my selection "mature" lolis I decided to choose a magical girl. This may sound like an oxymoron, as one of the traits that magical girls usually possess is innocence, followed by a will of escaping reality or their daily lives. Miyu is the complete opposite of this ideal, as well as Illyasvel von Einzbern. One night, she's discovered alone, in a park, where Sapphire (a living magical wand) has already sealed a pact to get her help. Almost emotionless, she affirms that she agreed to complete the mission the previous magical wand wielders failed to achieve. In all solemnity, she will participate whenever she's required without delay, whereas she will critisise Illya for her lack of commitment. This duty of hers is something that she nevers allow to neglect. However, in time she will discover that there are more important things she needs to protect now, not just her oath...

Taiga Sengoku (Grisaia: Phantom Trigger)
Have you ever happened to be the heir of a prominent house? In animanga, this is not that rare and they need to prove themselves further than any regular student. Despite her young age, Taiga has had to conduct intensive training to learn the trade of her house (assassination) and now she is sent to a certain school to improve other skills needed for her life. She is aware she needs to excel in any field just because who is, but soon she discovers that training differs from actual missions. Her skills are real, as she's regarded a genius, and she's also a quick learner, reason why she manages to adapt and overcome any situation she's thrown to - but not alone. The most important factor in her growth is the relationships she builds with the rest of the team, in particular with Christina, that determine the path she's going to follow.

Even in this unremarkable series (anime adaptation from a visual novel) from the popular Frontwing, she stands out above the rest and makes her worthwhile of my recognition. Probably the most mature loli among those I could list.

Arisu Tachibana (iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls)
To add even more contrast with the previous choices, I've decided to add Arisu (it's not spelled as "Alice" since the name is always in hiragana), a popular character from the franchise that becomes protagonist in The ICG: U149. Serious but hopeful, Arisu is always aiming to achieve her dreams: not only for herself, but also to be recognised by her parents. Not because they don't love her, but they are always too busy with work to spend time with her. Since she doesn't want to bother them, she lives as independently as possible: gets good grades, prepares her meals, does cores and takes care of anything idol related by herself as well. As she only relies on herself, she has to act as an adult on a daily basis and that makes her uncomfortable when she's treated as a child (such as being addressed by given name). This standard makes her admonish adults by their lack of seriousness or due negligence, as she doesn't let herself to fail or show any weakness.

arisu-tachibana-idolmaster.gif

She also has a loveable side, but that's up to you to discover. Any character I show you grows in the story, so you can expect great things from her as well. If you don't believe, I could add I don't like idols, so recommending a series is really rare.

I'll try to get all the archetypes done in the remaining days, so keep looking forward for them!
